1) Will the S&G 6730 lock body retrofit an existing safe or ATM without redrilling?
The 6730 lock case uses S&G's "magic module" footprint, which the manufacturer states is there for ease of retrofit on existing containers. If your container was prepped for a magic module footprint lock, the 6730-010 body drops into that same prep. Verify the mounting pattern in the door before you pull the old lock.
2) Three wheels or four wheels: should I order the 6730-010 or the 6731-004?
Both are body-only locks with a standard bolt. The 6730-010 has three combination wheels; the 6731-004 has four. Four wheels means a four-number combination and a larger number of possible settings, which is what some specifications call for on higher-value containers. If you are matching an existing three-number combination practice across a fleet of safes, stay with the 6730-010. In a complete lock with dial and ring, the four-wheel version is the 6731-111 (D225 Spy-Proof, key locking).
3) Is the 6730 safe lock rated for ATM and gun safe use?
The 6700 series is a Group 2 mechanical safe lock, UL Group 2, built for high-security, high-traffic work such as ATMs, gun safes, bank locks and similar commercial containers. The solid brass lock bolt resists 225 lbs of force, and a built-in relock trigger protects against dial and spindle punching attacks.
4) Does the 6730-010 come with a dial and ring, or do I need to order those separately?
The 6730-010 is the lock body only, supplied with the standard lock bolt and no dial or ring. If you want the complete assembly, order one of the lock, dial and ring part numbers instead: 6730-100 with the D300/R211 front reading black and white dial and ring, 6730-101 with the D003/R004 front reading dial and ring, 6730-102 with the D220 Spy-Proof dial and ring, 6730-103 with the D690 front reading key locking dial and ring, 6730-112 with the D225 Spy-Proof key locking dial and ring, or the four wheel 6731-111 with the D225 Spy-Proof key locking dial and ring. 5) Can I change the combination on the 6730 myself, and do I need a change key?
Yes. The 6730 uses a key changeable wheel design, so the combination is changed with a change key rather than by replacing parts. Dialing is the familiar left-right-left sequence with one-handed operation. The change key is a separate item from the body, so confirm you have one on the truck before you schedule the combination change.
6) What keeps a mechanical safe lock like this from drifting open under vibration?
Two things on the 6730. It has a patented torque adjuster that sets the wheel pack to a chosen resistance, which S&G specifies for long life and resistance to wheel skating and vibration opening.
