1) Will the Sargent & Greenleaf U18 spline key work on a 6120 or other S&G combination lock?
No. The U18 spline key is for 8400 Series locks only. If you're servicing a different S&G mechanical lock family, you need the spline key specified for that series, not the U18.
2) Do I need anything besides the U18 spline key to change the combination on an 8400 lock?
You'll also need the lock's existing combination and access to the back of the lock body, since the change key is inserted through the change key hole while the dial is set on the old combination. The U18 is supplied as the key only.
3) Is the U18 a replacement part or an ordering option on a new S&G lock?
The U18 is sold on its own as a U Series part for 8400 Series locks. Locksmiths typically buy it as a replacement for a lost change key or to stock one per lock model they service.
