1) Is the Sargent 866 a complete exit device or just the outside trim?
The Sargent 866 is exit device trim, not a device. It's the outside thumbpiece trim that mounts on the pull side of a door already fitted with a Sargent PE80 Series mortise exit device. You still need the exit device itself, plus a cylinder for keyed control. If you're buying a complete opening from scratch, look at a full mortise device such as the Corbin Russwin ED5600AL or the Falcon 25-M-EO instead, then add trim.
