Satco Lighting S11342 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Satco S11342 MR16 LED work in my 12V landscape or track fixture?
No. The S11342 is a 24V AC/DC lamp, so it will not run correctly on a standard 12V MR16 transformer. It needs a 24 volt supply. If your fixture is fed by the usual 12V magnetic or electronic low voltage transformer, you need a 12V MR16 instead. The GU5.3 bi-pin base is the same, which is exactly why this one gets ordered by mistake.
2) What halogen wattage does this 6W MR16 LED replace?
It is a 50W halogen equivalent, drawing 6 watts and putting out 550 lumens. For a fleet swap that is the number to work from: same light on the surface, roughly a tenth of the load per lamp, which matters when a run of MR16s is sharing one 24V transformer.
3) Can I put this MR16 LED in an enclosed or recessed fixture?
Yes. It is an enclosed rated lamp, so a sealed or gasketed housing is fine, which is where a lot of LED MR16s are excluded. Location rating is damp, so covered exterior soffits, canopies and bathrooms are in scope. Do not use it anywhere it takes direct rain or standing water.
4) Will 4000K match the MR16 halogens already in my building?
No, not visually. The S11342 is 4000K, a neutral white, while halogen MR16s read around 2700K to 3000K warm white. Put one in a run of halogens and it will stand out as noticeably cooler and bluer. 4000K is the right choice when you are converting a whole area at once, typically retail, office, lobby and corridor work. If you are spot replacing in a warm room, get a 3000K version.
5) Is the 40 degree beam right for general room lighting or should I use a narrower spot?
40 degrees is a flood pattern, the one to use for general downlighting, wall washing and covering merchandise or seating areas without hard edges between fixtures. If you are trying to punch a tight pool of light on a single object, artwork or a display case, you want a narrower beam MR16 instead, in the 15 to 25 degree range.
6) Is the Satco S11342 MR16 LED dimmable?
Yes, the lamp itself is dimmable. On a 24V low voltage circuit the dimming behaviour is set by the transformer and the dimmer feeding it, not by the lamp, so pair it with a driver and control rated for dimming LED loads. Note the draw is small, 0.250 to 0.025A, so a channel of these can fall under the minimum load of an older dimmer and flicker or refuse to start.
7) Is 80 CRI good enough for retail or hospitality spaces?
The S11342 is 80 CRI, which is the standard commercial grade and fine for offices, corridors, back of house and general hospitality lighting. Where color judgment is the point, apparel, cosmetics, food display or a gallery, spec a 90+ CRI MR16 instead. At 80 CRI reds in particular flatten out.
8) Can I use the Satco S11342 on a DLC rebate application?
No. This lamp is not DLC listed, so it will not qualify for a utility program that requires a DLC listing. It is FCC compliant, and it is lawful for sale in California. If the rebate is driving the project, you need a DLC listed replacement lamp.
9) Can this MR16 be aimed straight up or mounted base up?
Burning position is universal, so it runs in any orientation: base up in a recessed can, base down in a pendant, or horizontal in a track head or uplight. No derating or position restriction to work around.
10) Is this a lensed MR16 or an open reflector with visible diodes?
It is lensed, with a plastic (PS) lens and a gray lens finish over a gray housing. That means a diffused face rather than exposed emitters, which matters in any fixture where the lamp is visible from the floor or aimed toward eye level.
11) Does this MR16 change color temperature, or is 4000K fixed?
Fixed at 4000K. There is no CCT selectable switch on this lamp, so every one you order is neutral white. For a facility standardizing across many rooms that is an advantage, nobody can set a switch wrong in the field, but it does mean you order a separate part number for any area you want warmer.
12) Do I have to specify anything else when ordering the Satco S11342?
No options to pick. The S11342 ships one way: 6W, 4000K, 40 degree beam, GU5.3 base, 24V, gray finish. No three-way function and no color temperature selection to set. The only thing to confirm on your end is that the circuit is 24 volt.
