SATCO Lighting S11822 7.5W LED Directional Retrofit Downlight, Gimbaled, 4in, Adjustable Color Temperature, 60 degree Beam Angle, 120V

The S11822 is built as a 4 inch retrofit and screws into the existing socket with a medium base adapter, so it drops into a 4 inch housing without pulling the can. Watch the trim opening though: the fixture measures 6.02 inches in diameter and 3.54 inches tall, so the flange overlaps well past a 4 inch aperture and you need that 3.54 inches of depth clear inside the can.

That is the point of the S11822. Color temperature is selectable on the fixture across 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, so a property manager stocks one SKU and sets warm 2700K in units and 4000K or 5000K in corridors and back of house. Wattage is fixed at 7.5W, so the light output does not change with the color setting.

Damp location rated and marked for indoor use, so a bathroom ceiling, a shower surround outside the direct spray zone, or an enclosed interior stair is fine. A covered exterior soffit or a porch is not the right call here, that wants a wet location rated fixture.

Title 24 compliant, and the fixture carries cULus Certified and cULus Classified listings. It is also FCC compliant and RoHS compliant. For a California job that puts it in play for the residential and commercial lighting requirements a plan checker looks for.

The gimbaled head aims. You tilt the 60 degree beam off vertical to wash a wall, hit artwork, or correct for a sloped ceiling, instead of dumping all the light straight down like a fixed baffle trim. If you only need general ambient light over a floor, a fixed downlight trim does that job and costs less to aim (it does not need aiming at all).

The fixture is dimmable and runs on 120V at 60Hz. At 7.5 watts it draws very little, so a legacy incandescent style dimmer with a high minimum load can leave it flickering or dropping out at the low end. Pair it with an LED rated dimmer, and if you are grouping several on one circuit, keep the whole group on the same dimmer type.

No junction box work if you are retrofitting. The medium base adapter threads into the existing lamp socket in the can and the fixture mounts to the ceiling, so an in-house maintenance tech can swap it on a ladder. Integrated LED, so there is no lamp to change. When it reaches end of life you replace the fixture. The upside for an MRO stock list is a 50,000 hour rating and an aluminum body that carries heat away from the diode, which is what gets you there in an enclosed can.

White, and that is the only finish the S11822 comes in. The trim is round and contemporary in profile, 6.02 inches across the flange.
