SATCO Lighting S11824 10.5W LED Directional Retrofit Downlight, Gimbaled, 5-6in, Adjustable Color Temperature, 90 degree Beam Angle, 120V

The S11824 gimbaled retrofit is built to drop into both 5 inch and 6 inch recessed housings, so one part number covers the mix of can sizes you usually find across a building. It measures H:3.90" DIA:7.40", so the 7.4 inch trim ring covers the can opening and the 3.9 inch body has to clear inside the housing. Power comes off a medium adapter that threads into the existing lampholder in the can, which is why no rewiring of the housing is needed.

One SKU covers five color temperatures. The S11824 is CCT selectable at 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, chosen on the fixture at install. For a property manager that means you stock one box and match whatever the adjacent rooms are already running, warm 2700K in residential corridors, 4000K or 5000K in back of house. Wattage is fixed at 10.5W, so the lumen output stays at 800 lumens regardless of the Kelvin you pick.

Damp location rated and listed for indoor use. That covers a bathroom ceiling, a kitchen, or a covered interior area where humidity is present. It is not wet rated, so keep it out of a shower enclosure directly in the spray, off an open exterior soffit exposed to driven rain, and out of anywhere water contacts the fixture. For those spots you need a wet listed retrofit instead.

Title 24 compliant, which is the field that matters if you are doing work in California and need the lighting to pass inspection. It is also cULus Certified and cULus Classified, FCC compliant and RoHS compliant. The cULus Classified marking is the one that covers use of the retrofit in an existing recessed housing.

Gimbaled means the optic tilts inside the trim, so you can aim the light at artwork, a wall wash, a merchandising run, or compensate for a sloped ceiling. A fixed downlight just fires straight down. Aiming is the reason to pay for it, and the S11824 pairs the tilt with a wide 90 degree beam, which is a general area spread rather than a tight accent spot. If you want a narrow punch on a single object, a gimbal with a wide 90 degree beam is not the tool; if you want aimable general light in 5 or 6 inch cans, it is.

Dimmable, on standard 120V 60Hz line voltage. It is a line voltage retrofit, so it works off the existing switch leg in the can with a compatible forward or reverse phase LED dimmer, not a 0-10V or low voltage control system. If the room is on an old incandescent rotary dimmer, plan on swapping to an LED rated dimmer.

Nothing extra for a standard retrofit. The medium adapter screws into the existing socket in the recessed housing and the trim mounts to the ceiling at the can opening. No junction box work, no new housing, no separate driver to locate. White, and that is the only finish offered on the S11824, so it is a match for a standard white ceiling and white trim rings on the adjacent cans. The body is aluminum, which is what carries heat away from the LED in a closed can.
