SATCO Lighting S11858 10.5W, LED Retrofit Downlight, Gimbaled, 120V, CCT Selectable, Brushed Nickel Finish

The S11858 is a direct wire recessed downlight measuring 7.4 inches in diameter and 3.9 inches high. The 7.4 inch diameter trim covers the standard 6 inch can opening, but it is wired direct rather than screwing into a lamp socket, so the housing has to be accessible for the junction box connection and needs at least 3.9 inches of plenum depth for the fixture body.

One part covers five color temperatures: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, set with a selector switch on the fixture at install. For a property manager standardizing a building, that means one SKU on the shelf for warm residential units and cooler back-of-house spaces. Wattage is not selectable, it is fixed at 10.5W with 800 lumens output.

Damp location rated and listed for indoor use. That covers bathrooms, above a shower surround where the fixture is not in the direct spray, laundry rooms, and enclosed indoor spaces that see humidity. It is not a wet location fixture, so open soffits, exposed porches, and anywhere it takes direct water need a wet rated downlight instead.

Title 24 compliant, and cULus Classified. It is also FCC compliant and RoHS compliant. Those are the boxes a California multi-family or residential retrofit inspection asks about, and the CCT selectable range covering 2700K through 5000K lets you set the fixture to whatever temperature the spec calls for on site.

Yes, it is gimbaled, so the LED module tilts inside the 7.4 inch round trim to throw light off axis. That is the difference between this and a fixed downlight: use the gimbaled version for wall washing, sloped ceilings, or accenting, and a fixed round trim where you only want straight-down general light.

The downlight is dimmable on 120V line voltage. Integrated LED drivers pair best with dimmers rated for LED loads, so if the room still has an older incandescent rotary or slide dimmer, plan on swapping it out as part of the job to avoid flicker and drop-out at the low end.

Rated 50,000 hours. Because the LED is integrated there is no lamp to change, so at end of life the fixture is replaced rather than relamped. In a corridor running 24/7 that is roughly five and a half years of continuous operation, which is the number to plan an MRO replacement cycle around.

Brushed nickel is the only finish offered on the S11858, over a polycarbonate base. Polycarbonate rather than metal keeps the weight down on the ceiling plane and does not corrode in the damp locations it is rated for, which matters in bathrooms and laundry areas.
