Satco Lighting S11875 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does "remote driver" mean on this Satco downlight, and where does the driver go?
The LED module and the driver are separate pieces. The 0.90 inch thick, 6.78 inch round light panel mounts at the ceiling and the driver is wired remotely above it, which is why the fixture can sit in a very shallow cavity. It is a direct wire recessed installation, so there is no screw-in lamp base; the LED is integrated into the panel. Satco publishes install instructions for the S11875 if you need the wiring detail before roughing in.
2) What color temperatures can I set on the Satco S11875, and do I have to order a specific one?
One part number covers five color temperatures: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, selected on the fixture at install. Wattage is not selectable, it is fixed at 12W producing 900 lumens. For a property manager standardizing corridors or unit ceilings, that means you stock one item and match whatever CCT the rest of the building already runs.
3) Will the Satco S11875 pass a California Title 24 inspection?
It is California T24 Listed, which is the box a contractor needs checked on residential and many commercial jobs in California. The fixture is also cETLus Listed for US and Canadian use, FCC compliant and RoHS compliant.
4) Does the Satco S11875 dim, and what voltage does it run on?
It is dimmable and runs on 120V at 60Hz line power. Because the driver is remote rather than integral, the dimmer feeds the driver, so wire the control ahead of the driver, not between the driver and the panel.
5) What finish does the S11875 come in, and what is the trim made of?
Black is the finish offered on the S11875, with an aluminum body. It is a round, utility-style edge-lit panel, so the visible face is a flat lit disc rather than a baffle or reflector cone. If you are matching a ceiling that already runs white trims, this one will read as a dark accent.
6) How long is the Satco S11875 rated to run before relamping?
Rated life is 50,000 hours. The LED is integrated, so there is no lamp to change; at end of life the panel is replaced. For an MRO buyer that is the tradeoff to weigh against a socket-based downlight, where the lamp can be swapped without touching the ceiling.
7) How much does the S11875 downlight weigh, and will the ceiling support it?
The fixture weighs 1 lb, so drywall-mounted spring clips or a shallow housing handle it without additional support. That light weight plus the 0.90 inch depth is the reason this one goes into retrofit ceilings where a full can will not fit.
