Satco Lighting S11904 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Satco S11904 T5 LED tube go straight into my existing fluorescent fixture without rewiring?
No. The S11904 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, meaning no ballast or external driver is used and line voltage goes directly to the pins. The existing fluorescent ballast has to be removed or disconnected and the sockets rewired for double ended input, with one side of the line at each end. If you want a lamp that drops into the existing ballast with no wiring work, you need a Type A plug-and-play T5, not this one.
2) What length T5 socket spacing does this 4W Satco LED tube fit?
It is a 12 inch lamp overall with a miniature bi-pin (G5) base, so it replaces a nominal 1-foot T5 fluorescent. Measure the lamp you are pulling out: if it is not a 12 inch T5, this will not seat in the tombstones.
3) Can I put this Satco T5 LED on a dimmer?
No. The 4W S11904 is not dimmable and is not three-way. On a dimming circuit expect flicker or no start. For dimmed locations pick a lamp specifically listed as dimmable and check it against the dimmer model.
4) Is this T5 LED OK inside a closed fixture or a damp bathroom?
It is an enclosed rated lamp, so sealed or lensed fixtures are fine, and it carries a damp location rating. Damp covers covered exteriors, bathrooms, and cooler or display cases under cover. It is not rated for wet locations with direct water exposure.
5) Will 3000K match the other tubes in my building, or will it look yellow next to them?
The S11904 is fixed 3000K warm white with 82 CRI, and it is not CCT selectable, so there is no switch to change it. If the rest of your fixtures are 3500K or 4000K it will read noticeably warmer side by side. For a property manager standardizing a floor, pick one color temperature and stay with it.
6) Will this work on 277 volt building circuits as well as 120?
Yes, it runs on anything from 120V to 277V at 50/60 Hz, drawing 0.033 to 0.014 amps depending on where in that range you land. Same lamp for residential 120V and commercial 277V lighting branch circuits, which is useful if you are standardizing stock across mixed buildings.
7) Will a 4 watt LED be bright enough to replace the little fluorescent tube in my undercabinet or display fixture?
It puts out 400 lumens, which Satco rates as a 25W incandescent equivalent, at 4 watts of draw. For undercabinet, cove, display case, and sign applications that is a like-for-like swap for a 1-foot T5. The frosted lens and 240 degree beam spread give a wide wash rather than a spot, so you will not see hard striping on the shelf below.
8) Does the Satco S11904 qualify for a utility rebate or California Title 24?
It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant. It is not DLC listed, so any rebate program that requires a DesignLights Consortium listing will not accept this lamp. Check your utility's qualified products list before you build the rebate into the job cost.
9) Can this T5 LED be mounted vertically or base up?
Burning position is universal, so it can be installed horizontally, vertically, or at any angle without affecting rated life. Rated life is 50,000 average hours.
10) Is this Satco mini bi-pin LED glass or plastic, and how heavy is it?
Glass body and glass base material, with a frosted lens, and it weighs 0.13 lb. Light enough for any T5 tombstone, but handle it like a lamp rather than a shatterproof plastic tube if it is going somewhere exposed to impact.
