Satco Lighting S11906 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I have to remove the ballast to install the Satco S11906 T5 LED lamp?
Yes. The S11906 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp with double ended wiring, so the existing fluorescent ballast has to be removed or bypassed and line voltage run to the sockets, hot on one end and neutral on the other. No ballast or external driver is required once it is wired direct. If you want a lamp that drops into an existing ballasted fixture with no rewiring, this is not the one.
2) Will the Satco S11906 run on 277 volt commercial circuits as well as 120V?
It accepts 120V through 277V at 50/60Hz, so the same lamp works on residential 120V and on 277V commercial lighting circuits. Current draw runs 0.033A down to 0.014A across that voltage range, which matters when you are totalling a circuit for a room full of these.
3) What base does the Satco S11906 4W T5 LED use, and will it fit my existing T5 sockets?
It uses a miniature bi-pin base in a T5 tube shape, the same lampholder a standard T5 fluorescent sits in. Mechanically it drops into those sockets, but because it is a ballast bypass lamp the sockets themselves have to be rewired to line voltage first.
4) Can I put this Satco T5 LED on a dimmer switch?
No. The S11906 is not dimmable, and it is not a three-way lamp either. On a dimmer you would get flicker, buzz, or no start at all. Put it on a standard switched circuit, and if the space needs dimming, spec a dimmable lamp instead.
5) Can this Satco LED tube go in a fully enclosed fixture or a damp bathroom?
Enclosed rated, so it can be installed in a sealed or gasketed fixture without the heat buildup shortening its life. Location rating is damp, which covers bathrooms, covered exterior soffits, and similar. Damp rated is not wet rated, so keep it out of anywhere exposed to direct water.
6) Is this 6500K T5 LED too cold for an office or apartment?
6500K is daylight white, a hard blue-white. It reads well in shops, garages, utility rooms, display cases, and work areas where you want crisp task light. For tenant living spaces or hospitality, most property managers go warmer. Color rendering is 82 CRI, which is fine for general and task lighting.
7) How much light does the 4W S11906 actually put out compared to the bulb it replaces?
400 lumens at 4 watts, rated as a 25W incandescent equivalent. The frosted lens and a 240 degree beam spread push light nearly all the way around the tube rather than in one direction, so it fills a small fixture or cove evenly instead of throwing a spot.
8) Does the Satco S11906 meet Title 24 for a California job?
Yes, it is listed as Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant. Note that it is not DLC listed, so if your utility rebate program requires a DesignLights Consortium listing, this lamp will not qualify for that rebate.
9) Does it matter which way up I mount the Satco S11906?
No. Burning position is universal, so it can be run horizontal, vertical, or base up in a cabinet, cove, or sign housing with no effect on rated performance. Rated life is 50,000 average hours.
10) Is the S11906 a color-selectable lamp?
No. It is fixed at 6500K daylight with no CCT selection switch, so every lamp out of the box matches the next one. That is useful when you are standardizing a run of fixtures and want no chance of an installer leaving a switch on the wrong setting.
