Satco Lighting S11911 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I put the Satco S11911 T8 LED tube straight into my existing fluorescent fixture without rewiring?
No. The S11911 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the fixture has to be direct wired to 120-277V line voltage and the existing fluorescent ballast removed or disconnected. It runs with no ballast and no external driver. If you want a tube that drops into a working instant-start ballast with no wiring work, you need a Type A plug-and-play lamp instead.
2) Can the Satco S11911 T8 LED go in an enclosed or damp location fixture like a wrap or a vapor-tight?
Yes on both counts. It is an enclosed rated lamp and carries a damp location rating, which covers covered wrap fixtures, troffers with lenses, and sheltered exterior soffits. Damp is not wet, so do not use it where it will take direct water. Burning position is universal, so vertical, horizontal, or base-up all work.
3) Will 3500K match the other tubes already in my building?
3500K is a neutral white, between 3000K warm and 4000K cool. The S11911 is fixed at 3500K and is not CCT selectable, so if the rest of your fixtures are 4000K or 5000K the color difference will be visible in the same space. CRI is 80.
4) How much light does the 11.5W Satco T8 LED actually put out compared to the lamp it replaces?
1650 lumens at 11.5 watts, with a 50W incandescent equivalence rating. Beam spread is 180 degrees, so output is directed out of the lens face rather than all the way around the tube. Aim the lens toward the room when you install it.
5) Is the Satco S11911 glass or plastic, and will it shatter?
Both the body and the lens are glass, with a frosted finish and a white housing. That matters if you are specifying for a kitchen, food prep area, or gym where a shatter-resistant plastic or coated tube is usually required. For those spaces look for a plastic-body or shatterproof-coated T8 LED instead.
6) How many of these T8 LED tubes can I run on one 20A circuit?
Current draw is 0.096A at 120V down to 0.042A at 277V, across 50/60Hz. At 120V that is under a tenth of an amp per lamp, so circuit loading is rarely the limiting factor on a retrofit. Size the branch circuit to code for your total connected load.
7) Can I dim the Satco S11911 T8 LED on an existing dimmer or 3-way switch?
It is not a three-way lamp, and it is a direct-wire line voltage tube with no external driver, so run it on a standard on/off switch leg. For dimmable linear LED work you want a lamp specifically listed as dimmable with a matched control.
8) How long will these last before maintenance has to go back up the ladder?
Rated life is 50,000 average hours. On a 12-hour-a-day office or corridor schedule that is roughly 11 years of service, which is the main reason facilities groups standardize on a single T8 LED across a building rather than relamping fluorescents.
