Satco Lighting S12411 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Satco S12411 LED A19 go in an enclosed fixture like a jelly jar or a closed ceiling globe?
Yes. The S12411 is an enclosed rated lamp, so sealed fixtures that trap heat are fair game. It also carries a wet location rating and is listed for both indoor and outdoor use, which covers porch globes and covered exterior fixtures.
2) Is the Satco S12411 dimmable, and will it work on my existing wall dimmer?
The S12411 is a dimmable LED filament lamp on 120V, 60Hz. It draws only 0.042 amps, so a group of them on an old incandescent-style dimmer may sit below that dimmer's minimum load and flicker or buzz. For retrofits, an LED-rated dimmer is the safe pairing.
3) Is 5000K too cold for apartment units, or is this bulb better for garages and work areas?
5000K is daylight white, the coolest common residential color. It reads crisp and clinical, which suits garages, laundry rooms, stairwells, storage and shop areas. For living rooms and unit interiors where tenants expect warm light, go with a 2700K or 3000K version of the same 5W A19 instead. The color is fixed here, not field selectable.
4) Does a clear glass LED filament bulb look right in an open fixture where the bulb is visible?
That is what it is built for. The S12411 uses LED filaments behind a clear glass lens, so you see the filament strands the way you would in a vintage incandescent, rather than a frosted white dome. In a bare-bulb pendant, sconce or chandelier it looks like a filament lamp. In a fixture with an open bottom and a direct sightline, expect visible glare and sparkle off the clear glass.
5) Why spec a 90 CRI bulb over a standard LED for a hotel or retail space?
At 90 CRI, colors render close to what they look like under natural light, so paint, fabric, skin tone and merchandise do not go flat or muddy. Most commodity LED A19 lamps sit around 80. If your spec sheet calls for 90+ CRI in guest rooms, retail or healthcare, this 5W lamp meets it at 5000K.
6) Can this A19 be installed base-up in a can or sideways in a sconce?
Burning position is universal, so base-up, base-down or horizontal all work. That matters in ceiling fans, recessed cans and wall sconces where heat collects around the base. Beam spread is 320 degrees, close to omnidirectional, so it throws light back past the base as well.
7) Is the Satco S12411 a three-way bulb?
No. It is a single-output 5W lamp, so in a three-way socket it will light at one level only, or may not light on every switch position. For a three-way lamp you need a lamp specified as three-way with the matching base.
8) Does this Satco LED qualify for a DLC utility rebate on a commercial project?
No, the S12411 is not DLC approved, so it will not qualify under programs that require a DLC listing. It is FCC compliant and is lawful for sale in California.
