Satco Lighting S12424 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Satco S12424 LED A19 go in an enclosed fixture like a jelly jar or a closed ceiling globe?
Yes. The S12424 is an enclosed rated lamp, so sealed jelly jars, closed globes and vapor-tight fixtures are fair game. It also carries a wet location rating and is listed for indoor or outdoor use, which covers covered porches, stairwells and exterior wall packs. Burning position is universal, so base-up, base-down or horizontal all work.
2) Will a 4000K clear filament bulb match the warm bulbs already in my building?
No. The S12424 is fixed at 4000K, a neutral white that reads noticeably cooler and crisper than the 2700K warm white used in most residential units. It cannot be switched to another color temperature. For corridors, laundry rooms, garages, offices and back-of-house it blends well; for guest rooms or apartment living spaces alongside warm lamps it will stand out. If you are standardizing a property, pick one temperature and change out the whole opening or room at once.
3) Is the Satco S12424 A19 dimmable, and will it work on my existing dimmer?
The lamp is dimmable on 120V, 60Hz line voltage. It is not a three-way bulb, so do not put it in a three-way socket expecting three levels, and it is not CCT selectable either. As with any LED filament lamp, an older incandescent-era dimmer may not take it all the way down smoothly; a dimmer rated for LED loads gives the best result.
4) What does the clear glass and 90 CRI mean for how the light looks in an open fixture?
Clear glass over an LED filament means you see the filament, the same look as a vintage-style clear incandescent, so it suits exposed sockets, chandeliers, pendants and open-cage fixtures where the bulb is part of the design. The tradeoff is a visible bright point rather than the diffused glow of a frosted lamp. At 90 CRI it renders color close to daylight-reference accuracy, which matters in retail display, hospitality and anywhere finishes and merchandise are being judged. The 320 degree beam spread throws light nearly all the way around.
5) Can I sell or install the Satco S12424 in California?
Yes, the S12424 is lawful for sale in California. It is also FCC compliant. It is not DLC listed, so if your utility rebate program requires a DLC qualified product, this lamp will not qualify for that particular incentive.
6) Is a clear A19 filament lamp the right choice, or should I use a frosted one?
Go clear when the bulb is visible: exposed-socket pendants, sconces, chandeliers, vanity bars and open-cage exterior fixtures, where the filament look is wanted. Go frosted when the lamp sits behind a shade you can see through, in a bare-socket utility fixture over a work area, or anywhere occupants will look straight at it, since a clear filament lamp produces a hard bright point. The S12424 is the clear version, 4000K, at 1100 lumens.
7) How long does the Satco S12424 last, and is it worth it for hard-to-reach fixtures?
Rated average life is 15,000 hours. On a common corridor or exterior fixture running roughly 12 hours a day that is about 3.4 years between changes, which is the argument for putting it in high-ceiling or lift-access locations. Construction is aluminum and glass.
