Satco Lighting S21314 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use this 4W CA10 LED filament bulb in an outdoor fixture or an enclosed lantern?
Yes on both counts. The lamp carries a Wet location rating and is listed for indoor/outdoor use, so exterior sconces, post lanterns, and covered entries are fair game. It is also an enclosed rated lamp, which means it can go in a sealed or gasketed fixture where most LED lamps overheat. Burning position is universal, so base up, base down, or horizontal all work.
2) Will a 4000K clear filament candle bulb match the warm chandelier lamps already in my building?
No. At 4000K this is a neutral or cool white, noticeably whiter than the 2700K warm white most residential chandeliers and decorative sconces run. Mixed in the same fixture it will look obviously different. Use 4000K where you want a crisper commercial look, lobby, corridor, or exterior sconce, and keep one color temperature per fixture. The 90 CRI rating means colors and finishes render accurately, which matters in retail and hospitality spaces.
3) What incandescent bulb does a 4W 350 lumen CA10 LED actually replace?
It is rated as a 40W incandescent equivalent, putting out 350 lumens on 4 watts. So in a chandelier or vanity bar that originally ran 40W candle lamps, light output stays in the same ballpark while draw drops to 0.033 amps per lamp at 120V. On a 12-lamp fixture that is under half an amp total.
4) Is the Satco S21314 dimmable on an existing wall dimmer?
The lamp is dimmable. It runs on 120V, 60Hz line voltage, so it works with standard forward-phase wall dimmers, but as with any LED retrofit you want a dimmer rated for LED loads. Swapping out 40W incandescent candles for 4W LEDs drops the total load a long way, and an old dimmer with a high minimum load is the usual cause of flicker or a dead bottom end.
5) Does this bulb have a selectable color temperature or a three-way function?
Neither. The S21314 is fixed at 4000K with no CCT selector switch, and it is not a three-way lamp. In a three-way socket it will light at a single level only. If you need field-adjustable color temperature or three-way stepping, this is the wrong lamp.
6) How long does the Satco S21314 last, and does it qualify for California Title 24?
Rated life is 15,000 hours, and the lamp is Title 24 compliant, so it can be specified on California jobs where high-efficacy lighting is required. It is also FCC compliant. Note that it is not DLC approved, so it will not count toward utility rebate programs that require a DesignLights Consortium listing.
7) Is the clear glass filament style going to glare in an open chandelier?
It is a clear lamp with a visible LED filament and a 300 degree beam spread, so light goes nearly all the way around, including back toward the base. That is what you want in an exposed-bulb chandelier or open shade where the lamp itself is part of the look, but the filament is bright and directly visible. In a fixture at eye level with no diffuser, a frosted candle lamp is easier on the eyes.
8) What is the Satco candle LED made of, and is the base metal going to corrode in a damp exterior fixture?
Construction is glass with a nickel plated aluminum base. Nickel plating resists corrosion better than bare brass-plated steel bases in humid or coastal exterior fixtures, which pairs with the lamp's Wet location rating. Each lamp weighs 0.04 lb, so even a large multi-lamp order ships light.
