Satco Lighting S23147 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Satco S23147 LED HID replacement lamp need the existing ballast, or does it wire direct?
The S23147 is a Type B, ballast bypass lamp. It runs on line voltage direct to the socket, so the existing HID ballast has to be removed or bypassed before the lamp goes in. Leaving the ballast in circuit is not how this lamp is meant to run.
2) What voltage can the Satco S23147 medium base LED lamp run on?
It accepts 100 to 277 volts, so the same lamp works on 120V residential circuits and on 277V commercial lighting branch circuits. That is useful for an MRO buyer standardizing one part number across mixed-voltage buildings.
3) Can I change the wattage and color temperature on the Satco S23147 after installing it?
Both are selectable on the lamp itself. Wattage sets to 22, 18, or 16 watts (PowerQuick), and color temperature is selectable through ColorQuick technology. One SKU covers several output and color combinations, which cuts how many part numbers a property manager has to stock.
4) Will the Satco S23147 screw into a standard E26 socket?
Yes, it uses a medium base, the standard screw base found on most HID retrofit and general purpose sockets.
5) What is the difference between a Type B ballast bypass lamp like the S23147 and a Type A plug-and-play LED?
Type B means the lamp is wired direct to line voltage and the ballast is taken out of the circuit, so an electrician has to open the fixture. Type A lamps keep the existing ballast and just drop into the socket. Type B removes the ballast as a future failure point and stops the ballast from drawing power; the tradeoff is the labor to rewire the fixture. The S23147 is Type B.
6) Is the Satco S23147 sold in more than one version?
There is one configuration, MPN S23147, in a white finish. The wattage and color temperature choices are made on the lamp rather than by ordering a different part number.
