1) Do I have to remove the ballast to install the Satco S23151 LED HID replacement lamp?
Yes. The S23151 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing HID ballast has to be removed or bypassed and line voltage wired directly to the socket. It will not run on an existing probe-start or pulse-start ballast. Plan on an electrician opening the fixture, not a simple lamp swap.
2) Will the Satco S23151 work on 120V and 277V circuits?
It accepts 100 to 277 volts, so the same lamp covers 120V, 208V, 240V and 277V line-voltage circuits once the ballast is bypassed. That makes it easier to standardize one part number across mixed-voltage buildings.
3) Is the Satco S23151 a plug-and-play replacement for my existing metal halide lamp?
No. Plug-and-play lamps are Type A and run off the existing ballast; the S23151 is Type B, so the ballast must come out and the socket wired to line voltage between 100 and 277V. If you want a true drop-in without rewiring, you need a Type A HID replacement instead.
