Satco Lighting S28483 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Satco S28483 A19 LED be used in an enclosed ceiling fixture or a closed glass dome?
Yes. The S28483 is an enclosed rated lamp, so it can run inside a closed glass dome or drum fixture where many LED bulbs are not permitted. It's also damp location rated, which covers covered porches, bath ceilings and similar damp interiors. Indoor use only.
2) Is the Satco S28483 dimmable, and will it work on a three-way lamp?
Dimmable, yes, on a 120V 60Hz line. Three-way, no. The S28483 is a single-level lamp, so in a three-way socket you'll get one output stage only, not the usual low/medium/high. For three-way table lamps you need a lamp specifically built as three-way.
3) Will a 90 CRI 4000K A19 LED match the bulbs already in the rest of my building?
Only where the other lamps are also 4000K. The S28483 is fixed at 4000K neutral white with 90+ CRI color rendering, and it is not CCT selectable, so there's no switch to shift it to 2700K or 3000K. If your corridors and units are on warm white, this one will read noticeably cooler and bluer alongside them. Mixing it into a single space with lower-CRI lamps will also show a color difference even at the same Kelvin.
4) Does the Satco S28483 LED bulb meet California Title 24 requirements?
It is California T24 listed, which is what matters when you're specifying lamps for a jobsite in California. It is not DLC approved, so if a utility rebate program on your project requires a DLC listing, this lamp won't qualify for it.
5) Can the S28483 A19 be installed base-up in a recessed can or sideways in a wall sconce?
Any orientation. Burning position is universal, so base-up in a downlight, base-down in a table lamp, or horizontal in a sconce all work. Combined with the 220 degree beam spread, it throws light nearly all the way around the bulb rather than in one direction, which is what you want for shades and diffusers.
6) Why choose a 90 CRI A19 LED instead of a standard 80 CRI bulb?
90+ CRI renders color closer to natural light, so finishes, paint, skin tones and merchandise look right under it. That's the reason it gets specified in hotel guest rooms, healthcare spaces, retail and model units. In a back-of-house storeroom or a mechanical room, a standard 80 CRI lamp does the same job for less. The S28483 pairs that 90+ CRI with 1100 lumens at 4000K.
7) How many of these 11.5W LED bulbs can I run on one 15 amp circuit?
Each S28483 draws 0.096A at 120V, so the lamp load itself is tiny, on the order of a hundred-plus lamps before you approach a 15A circuit's capacity. In practice your limit is the fixture count and the dimmer's minimum/maximum load rating, not the bulbs. Check the dimmer's LED load spec when you're putting a large group on one control.
8) Is the Satco S28483 bulb glass or plastic?
The lens is white plastic (PS), not glass, with a white housing and a metal base over the internal electronics. For multi-family turns and hospitality rooms that matters: a dropped plastic A19 is far less likely to shatter than a glass one. Each lamp weighs 0.11 lb.
