Satco Lighting S28929 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I put the Satco S28929 wall pack lamp straight into an existing HID wall pack, or do I have to remove the ballast?
The S28929 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, which means it runs on line voltage direct to the medium base socket. The existing HID ballast has to be removed or bypassed and the socket wired direct to 100-277V line. It will not run through a metal halide or HPS ballast.
2) How do I set the wattage and color temperature on the Satco S28929 selectable wall pack lamp?
Two selections are made on the lamp itself before install. Wattage is switchable between 20W, 30W and 40W, giving 3200, 4700 or 6000 lumens. Color is switchable between 3000K, 4000K and 5000K. That is one SKU covering nine output and color combinations, which is why it works well as a stocked MRO item across a mixed property.
3) Will the Satco S28929 corncob lamp work inside a sealed outdoor wall pack fixture?
Yes. It is an enclosed rated lamp and carries a damp location rating, so it can go in a closed wall pack housing indoors or out. Damp rated is not wet rated, so the fixture itself has to keep direct water off the lamp.
4) Does the Satco S28929 have to be mounted in a particular orientation?
Burning position is horizontal. It is built as a wall pack replacement lamp with a 180 degree beam spread, so the light is thrown out one side rather than all the way around like a standard corncob. Mount it horizontally in the wall pack so the emitting face points out of the fixture.
5) Will this Satco wall pack lamp run on 120V and 277V circuits so I can stock one lamp for the whole property?
Yes. The S28929 accepts 100V through 277V at 50-60Hz, so the same lamp covers 120V residential-style circuits and 277V commercial lighting circuits. Current draw runs from 0.200-0.072A at the 20W setting up to 0.400-0.144A at 40W, the higher figure being the low-voltage end of the range.
6) What incandescent or HID wattage does the Satco S28929 replace?
It is rated as a 100W incandescent equivalent, and at the top setting it puts out 6000 lumens at 40W draw. For a wall pack retrofit, compare on lumens: pick the 20W/3200L, 30W/4700L or 40W/6000L setting against what the old lamp actually delivered.
7) Does the Satco S28929 qualify for a DLC utility rebate?
No. The S28929 is not DLC approved, so it will not qualify under utility programs that require a DesignLights Consortium listing. It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant.
8) Is the Satco S28929 dimmable, and can I use it on a photocell or three-way circuit?
It is listed as dimmable and as three-way capable. On a ballast bypass line voltage install, dimming means a line voltage dimmer on the branch circuit, not a driver-level control.
9) What is the Satco S28929 made of and what color is the body?
The lamp body combines aluminum and plastic, with a plastic lens and a white housing. The aluminum portion handles heat sinking, which is part of why it carries an enclosed fixture rating.
