1) Does the Satco S33115 LED hi-bay lamp work with my existing metal halide ballast?
No. The S33115 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing metal halide ballast has to be removed or bypassed and line voltage wired directly to the socket. It runs on 100V-277V at 50/60Hz. If you leave the ballast in the circuit, the lamp will not operate correctly.
2) What metal halide wattage can the Satco S33115 replace?
It is built as a 250W to 400W metal halide replacement. The three selectable settings put out 11,200, 14,000 or 18,200 lumens at 80W, 100W or 130W, so you can match the output of the HID lamp you are pulling out rather than over- or under-lighting the space.
3) Will the mogul base on this Satco LED hi-bay lamp fit my existing E39 socket?
The S33115 uses a Mogul Extended base. The extended neck pushes the LED body further out of the socket than a standard mogul lamp, which matters in a shallow or enclosed fixture, so check your fixture depth and shade clearance before ordering.
4) Can I install this LED hi-bay lamp in an enclosed or outdoor fixture?
Yes on both counts. The S33115 is rated for enclosed as well as open fixtures and is listed for indoor or outdoor use with a damp location rating. Damp means covered or shielded locations such as a canopy, parking structure or warehouse dock, not direct exposure to weather or submersion.
5) Can I dim this 80/100/130W selectable LED hi-bay lamp?
No. The S33115 is non-dimmable. The three wattage settings are a mechanical output selection made at install, not a dimming control, and the lamp will not respond to a dimmer or a 0-10V control. If the space needs dimming, specify a dimmable fixture-based LED high bay instead.
6) Can the Satco S33115 be mounted base-up in a high bay fixture?
Burning position is universal, so it can go base-up, base-down or horizontal. That is the usual reason an HID retrofit fails in a shoebox or wall pack, and it is not a constraint here.
7) What color light does this Satco hi-bay LED put out, and is the color temperature adjustable?
Fixed 5000K daylight white at 80 CRI. Color temperature is not selectable, so if you are relamping a building and want to match 4000K fixtures on adjacent bays, this lamp will read noticeably cooler and bluer than those.
8) How wide does the beam spread on the Satco S33115 and will it cover a warehouse aisle?
120 degree beam spread, which is a wide wash suited to general high bay coverage rather than a narrow aisle throw. At 18,200 lumens on the top setting it is a broad-area lamp; for tight rack aisles at high mounting heights an aisle-optic fixture puts more light down the row.
9) How much current does the Satco S33115 draw so I can size the circuit for a bank of them?
Draw depends on the wattage setting and line voltage: 0.800A to 0.289A at the 80W setting, 1.000A to 0.361A at 100W, and 1.300A to 0.469A at 130W, with the higher figure at the low end of the 100V-277V range. On a 277V circuit at 130W you can put a lot more lamps on a branch than at 120V.
10) Does this Satco LED HID replacement lamp qualify for a DLC utility rebate?
No, it is not DLC listed, so it will not qualify for rebate programs that require DLC qualification. It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant.
11) How heavy is this LED hi-bay retrofit lamp, and will my old HID socket hold it?
