Satco Lighting S39750 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I have to remove the existing ballast to use the Satco S39750 LED corncob lamp?
Yes. The S39750 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing HID ballast has to be removed or bypassed and line voltage wired directly to the socket. It runs on 100-277V at 50/60Hz, so it works on 120V, 208V, 240V and 277V circuits without changing the lamp. Leaving the old ballast in the circuit will damage the lamp.
2) Will a 30W LED corncob lamp put out enough light to replace what is in my fixture now?
The Satco S39750 delivers 4200 lumens from 30 watts, which Satco rates as a 200W incandescent equivalent. For HID retrofits, compare lumens rather than watts: if the metal halide or HPS lamp coming out was producing more than about 4200 lumens on the fixture, you will see a drop in light level.
3) Can this LED HID replacement go in a closed wall pack or acorn fixture?
Yes. The S39750 is an enclosed rated lamp, so it can be used in a sealed or gasketed fixture where a non-enclosed-rated LED would overheat. It is also damp location rated and listed for indoor or outdoor use, which covers covered walkways, canopies and enclosed wall packs. It is not rated for wet locations with direct water exposure.
4) What does the adjustable beam angle on this Satco corncob lamp actually do?
The lamp's LED panels adjust to give a 120, 150 or 260 degree beam spread. Narrower settings push light down for high mounting or a deep shoebox housing; the 260 degree setting spreads light around the lamp for post tops and open-bottom fixtures. You set it at install, and the lamp can be burned in any position since burning position is universal.
5) Can I put the Satco S39750 on a dimmer?
No. This lamp is non-dimmable and has no three-way function. Wire it to a switched line-voltage circuit only. If dimming is part of the spec, this is the wrong lamp for the opening.
6) Is the 5000K color on this lamp switch selectable?
No, it is fixed at 5000K with a CRI of 80. There is no CCT selector, so every lamp out of the box is the same daylight-white output. That is useful when you are standardizing a parking garage or warehouse and want no chance of a mismatched color on a service call.
7) How much current does this 30W LED HID lamp draw, and how many can I put on a circuit?
Draw is 0.300A at the low end of the voltage range down to 0.108A at 277V. Use the figure that matches your actual line voltage when you total up a branch circuit; at 277V the per-lamp load is small enough that socket count is usually limited by the fixture layout rather than the breaker.
8) Does the Satco S39750 qualify for a DLC utility rebate?
No. This lamp is not DLC listed, so it will not qualify for utility rebate programs that require DLC qualification. It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant. If a rebate is driving the project, you need a DLC-qualified lamp instead.
9) How long will these last before maintenance has to relamp again?
Rated average life is 50,000 hours. On a dusk-to-dawn exterior schedule of roughly 4,000 hours a year, that is on the order of a decade between relamps, which is the main reason facilities pull HID lamps and go ballast bypass LED in high-access-cost locations.
10) What is the body of this corncob lamp made of and will it handle the heat in a fixture?
The base and body use aluminum, steel and PBT thermoplastic with a white housing, and the lens is clear PBT. The aluminum is doing the heat sinking, which is what allows the enclosed-fixture rating on a 30W lamp.
