1) Do I have to remove the ballast to install the Satco S39752 corncob LED?
Yes. The S39752 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing HID ballast has to be removed or bypassed and line voltage wired direct to the socket. It runs on 100-277V at 50/60Hz, so it works on 120V, 208V, 240V and 277V circuits once the socket is wired line voltage. Leaving the ballast in the circuit will damage the lamp.
2) What HID wattage will a 60W LED corncob lamp actually replace?
The Satco S39752 puts out 8400 lumens at 60 watts and is rated as a 500W incandescent equivalent. In practice that output lands in the range of a 175W to 250W metal halide fixture once you account for HID lumen depreciation and reflector losses. Check the lumens you need at the task, not just the old lamp's nameplate wattage.
3) Can I use this LED corncob in a fully enclosed fixture?
Yes. It's an enclosed rated lamp, so it can go in a sealed acorn, jelly jar, wall pack or glass-lens shoebox without voiding the rating. It is also damp location rated for indoor or outdoor use, meaning covered outdoor positions are fine but direct exposure to driving rain or submersion is not.
4) Will this qualify for a utility rebate on a lighting retrofit?
The S39752 is not DLC listed, so it will not clear utility or prescriptive rebate programs that require a DesignLights Consortium listing. It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant. 5) Is the S39752 dimmable, and can I put it on a photocell or occupancy control?

6) Is 5000K going to match the other retrofits in my parking garage?
5000K fixed, a cool daylight white, with a CRI of 80. The color temperature is not selectable on this lamp, so what you order is what you get. If the rest of the site is already on 4000K neutral white, this one will read noticeably bluer next to it, which matters in garages and corridors where lamps are in the same sightline.
7) What current draw should I figure per lamp when I load up a lighting circuit?
Draw is 0.600A down to 0.217A across the voltage range, the higher figure at 100-120V and the lower at 277V. At 120V, count roughly 0.6A each when you total a branch circuit; on 277V you can hang appreciably more lamps on the same breaker.
8) How long will these last before my maintenance crew has to go back up the lift?
