1) Does the Satco S39900 2ft T8 LED need the existing fluorescent ballast removed?
Yes. The S39900 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so it runs on line voltage direct to the sockets. The fluorescent ballast has to be removed or disconnected and the sockets rewired before the lamp goes in. If you want a plug-and-play lamp that runs off the existing ballast, this is the wrong type.
