1) Does the Satco S49671 corncob LED work with my existing HID ballast still in the fixture?
No. The S49671 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing HID ballast has to be removed or bypassed and line voltage wired directly to the medium base socket. Leaving the ballast in the circuit will damage the lamp. It accepts 100V to 277V at 50/60Hz, so it runs on 120V or 277V branch circuits without any driver change.
2) Can I put this Satco 22W corncob LED in a sealed or enclosed outdoor fixture?
Yes on enclosed fixtures, with a limit outdoors. The lamp is enclosed rated, so a sealed jelly jar, acorn or lantern housing is fine. Its location rating is damp, which covers covered porches, soffits, parking garages and canopies, but not a fixture exposed to direct rain or standing water. For those you need a wet location rated lamp.
3) Can the S49671 be used on a dimmer or a three-way socket?
No to both. This Hi-Pro corncob is non-dimmable and is not a three-way lamp, so it needs a straight switched line voltage circuit. Put it on a dimmer or a three-way socket and you will get flicker, buzz or no start. If the space needs dimming control, choose a lamp listed as dimmable instead.
4) What incandescent or HID wattage does the Satco S49671 22W LED actually replace?
It draws 22 watts and puts out 2860 lumens, which Satco rates as a 100W incandescent equivalent. Current draw runs 0.220A at the low end of the voltage range down to 0.079A at 277V, so on a multi-fixture circuit you can load far more lamps per breaker than the HID lamps it replaces.

The color is fixed, not field selectable, so if other openings in the building are on 3000K or 4000K it will read noticeably warmer.
6) Can the S49671 be installed base up in a post top or base down in a pendant?
Either way. Burning position is universal, so it can be mounted base up, base down or horizontally in a post top, wall pack or pendant without affecting rated life. The 300 degree beam spread throws light nearly all the way around the corncob body, which suits open reflectors and diffused globes better than a tight downlight application.
