1) Does the Satco S8530 LED PL lamp need the existing ballast removed?
Yes. The S8530 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so it runs on line voltage direct to the socket. The fluorescent ballast has to be removed or bypassed and the sockets wired directly before the lamp will work. Installing it in a fixture with a live ballast is not how this lamp is designed to operate.
2) Will a G24d 2-pin LED lamp fit my existing 2-pin CFL sockets?
The S8530 uses a G24d 2-pin base, which is the same base found on 2-pin compact fluorescent PL lamps. It drops into those sockets mechanically, but because it is a ballast bypass lamp the sockets must be rewired to line voltage first. It will not fit 4-pin G24q sockets without changing the socket.
3) Can the Satco S8530 be mounted base-up in a vertical downlight?
The S8530 is specified for horizontal burn position. In vertical or base-up cans, choose a PL lamp rated for that orientation rather than this one.
4) What wattage CFL does the 9W Satco S8530 LED replace?
At 9 watts drawing 900 lumens, the S8530 is the LED stand-in for a typical 26W 2-pin PL compact fluorescent in downlights, sconces and stairwell cans. Light output is the number to match on, not wattage.
5) Is 2700K on this Satco PL lamp going to match the warm CFLs already in my building?
2700K is the warm white color temperature, the same nominal value as standard warm CFL and incandescent lamps, so it blends with existing 2700K fixtures in corridors, lobbies and guest rooms. If your other lamps are 3500K or 4000K, this one will read noticeably warmer beside them.
