Satco Lighting S8749 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Satco S8749 GU24 LED PL lamp need the existing CFL ballast removed?
Yes. The S8749 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so it runs on line voltage direct to the socket. Any existing ballast in the fixture has to be removed or bypassed and the GU24 socket wired straight to line. It accepts 120V through 277V at 50/60Hz, so it works on either common commercial circuit.
2) Will the S8749 fit a pin-base CFL socket, or do I need a GU24 socket?
It is a GU24 bi-pin twist-lock base only. It will not go into a G24q, GX24q or other 2-pin/4-pin plug-in CFL socket. If the can or ceiling fixture already has a GU24 socket (common on newer residential and multi-family retrofits), the lamp drops in once the ballast is bypassed.
3) Can I use this 8W LED PL lamp in an enclosed or shower-trim fixture?
Yes. The S8749 is an enclosed rated lamp, so it can be installed in a sealed or gasketed fixture without voiding its rated life. It also burns in any position, base up, base down or horizontal, which matters in wall sconces and cans.
4) Is the Satco S8749 dimmable?
No. This 8W GU24 PL lamp is non-dimming. On a dimmer circuit expect flicker, buzz or no start at all, so put it on a standard on/off switch or an occupancy sensor rated for LED loads. If the space needs dimming, you need a different lamp.
5) What incandescent or CFL wattage does an 8W 960 lumen GU24 LED replace?
Satco rates the S8749 as a 40W incandescent equivalent, putting out 960 lumens on 8 watts. Current draw is 0.067A at 120V down to 0.029A at 277V, so a lot of these can sit on one circuit compared to the CFLs they replace.
6) Will 5000K match the rest of the lamps in my building?
The S8749 is fixed at 5000K, a cool daylight white typical of garages, stairwells, laundry and back-of-house areas. It is not color selectable, so it will read noticeably bluer next to 2700K or 3000K lamps in the same sightline. CRI is 83, and the frosted lens with a 120 degree beam gives general room wash rather than a spot.
7) Does the S8749 qualify for DLC utility rebates or Buy American projects?
No on both counts. This lamp is not DLC listed, so it will not clear rebate programs that require a DLC qualified product, and it is not BAA compliant, which rules it out of federal jobs carrying a Buy American requirement. It is FCC compliant.
8) Can I spec the Satco S8749 on a California job?
Satco flags this lamp as non-compliant for California, so it should not be specified where Title 20 compliant lamps are required. For California work choose a listed compliant GU24 LED instead.
9) How long will these last in a common-area fixture that runs all night?
Rated at 50,000 average hours. Run continuously that is roughly 5.7 years; on a 12 hour overnight schedule it is over 11 years of service. For a property manager standardizing stairwell and corridor GU24 cans, that is the relamp interval to plan against.
