Satco Lighting S9754 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I put the Satco S9754 corncob LED in a standard 120V light socket?
No. The S9754 runs on 12V to 24V only, so it will not work in a line-voltage 120V fixture. It's built for low-voltage DC or AC systems, solar and off-grid setups, RVs, boats, and battery-bank lighting. If your socket is fed from a 120V branch circuit, you need a standard 120V corncob lamp instead.
2) How much current does this 12-24V LED lamp draw off my battery bank?
Draw is 1.167A at the low end of the range and 0.583A at 24V. Size your wiring, fuse and battery budget from the 1.167A figure if you are running at 12V. That matters when you are putting several lamps on one low-voltage run.
3) Can the Satco S9754 go in an enclosed fixture or a jelly jar?
Yes, it's an enclosed rated lamp, so a sealed or gasketed fixture is fine. It is also damp location rated and can burn in any position, base up, base down or horizontal, which covers most jelly jars, wall packs and covered porch or dock fixtures. Damp rated is not wet rated, so keep it out of fixtures exposed to direct rain or hose spray.
4) Will this Satco corncob LED work on a dimmer?
No. The S9754 is not dimmable and it is not three-way. Put it on a low-voltage dimmer and you'll get flicker, buzz, or no start at all. Use a plain on/off switch or relay on the 12-24V circuit.
5) How much light does the 14W S9754 put out, and what is it replacing?
1680 lumens at 14 watts, rated as a 150W incandescent equivalent. Color is 5000K daylight with 80+ CRI, and the beam spread is 330 degrees, so it throws light nearly all the way around the lamp rather than in one direction.
6) Does the S9754 need the old HID ballast, or do I bypass it?
It's a direct LED HID replacement lamp running on 12-24V, so there is no ballast in the circuit. If you are pulling an HID lamp out of a fixture with a magnetic ballast, that ballast has to come out and the socket gets fed from the 12-24V supply. This is not a ballast-compatible plug-and-play retrofit for a line-voltage HID fixture.
7) Does the Satco S9754 qualify for a utility rebate or California Title 24?
No on both counts. The S9754 is not DLC listed and is not Title 24 compliant, so it won't satisfy DLC-based utility rebate programs or California Title 24 lighting requirements. It is FCC compliant. If a rebate or Title 24 credit is part of the job, specify a DLC-listed lamp instead.
8) Is the 5000K color fixed, or can I switch it to a warmer white?
Fixed at 5000K daylight. The S9754 is not CCT selectable, so there's no field switch for 3000K or 4000K. If you are relamping a building and want the whole fleet to match, every one of these will read the same cool white at 80+ CRI.
9) How long does the S9754 last before I'm back up the ladder?
Rated 50,000 average hours. For hard-to-reach low-voltage fixtures, dock lights or off-grid installs where a service call is the real cost, that's the number that matters more than the wattage.
10) What does the S9754 lamp look like in an open fixture?
It's a corncob-shape LED lamp with a clear lens and a white/grey housing. In an open or globe fixture the LED boards are visible, so if appearance matters, put it behind a diffuser or a frosted globe.
