Schaub 885-SSB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What screws come with the Schaub 885 Empire cabinet pull, and will they work on a thicker door?
The Empire 885 pull uses 8/32 x 1 inch machine screws, the standard cabinet pull thread. A 1 inch screw covers typical 3/4 inch door and drawer fronts with thread to spare. If you're mounting through a thicker front, a false front plus a drawer box, or a slab with an applied panel, you'll need longer 8/32 screws. The thread size stays the same, only the length changes.
2) I need a shorter pull to match the Schaub Empire on my drawers. What else works?
The 885 is fixed at 6 inch centers, so for smaller drawers you need a different part rather than a shorter version of it. Options ZenSupply carries: the Trimco 553 Series drawer pull at 3 inch center-to-center, the Trimco 562 Series with 3-1/2 inch, 4 inch, and 96mm center options, the Deltana SBP35 square bar pull at 3-1/2 inch, and the Omnia 1968/102 at 4 inch centers. None of those are Empire styling, so if visual match across the run matters more than size, look at the wider Schaub range through the Emtek SELECT and Schaub collection lines instead.
3) Is there a solid brass cabinet pull to use instead of the zinc Schaub 885?
The Schaub 885 Empire pull is built on a zinc base material. Where a forged solid brass body is specified instead, the Omnia 1970 modern cabinet pull is forged solid brass with a 1-1/4 inch projection, which is the same projection the Schaub 885 carries, so the clearance off the door face is unchanged. Omnia's 1969 and 1971 modern cabinet pulls are also forged solid brass and run a 1-3/16 inch projection. The Deltana SBP35 modern square bar pull is another solid brass option at 3-1/2 inches, which is a shorter pull than the 885 and will not land on 6 inch holes.
4) What is a good substitute for the Schaub 885 Empire cabinet pull if the kitchen already uses Emtek hardware?
Emtek sells the Schaub Collection under its own label, and the Emtek 8405 Select cabinet pull is part of that collection, so the design language carries over directly. Emtek's Schaub Collection also includes the Alexander cabinet pull and the Art Deco cabinet pull if the Empire profile is not the look wanted. The Schaub 885 itself is a 6 inch center-to-center pull with a 6-1/2 inch overall length, so when matching an Emtek Schaub Collection pull to the same drilled holes, confirm the center-to-center of the Emtek model before ordering.
5) What cabinet pull works if the drawer fronts are drilled 4 inch center to center instead of 6 inch?
The Schaub 885 Empire pull is drilled 6 inch center to center and will not reach 4 inch holes without redrilling. The Omnia 1968/102 modern cabinet pull is a forged solid brass pull with 4 inch center-to-center spacing and drops onto that hole pattern. The Trimco 562 series drawer pulls are offered in 3-1/2 inch, 4 inch, and 96mm center-to-center options, so that series also covers a 4 inch layout, and the Trimco 553 series is a 3 inch center-to-center drawer pull for narrower fronts.
6) How far does the Schaub Empire pull stand off the cabinet face, and will my fingers clear it?
Projection is 1-1/4 inches from the face of the cabinet to the back of the grip, which gives a full hand grip rather than a fingertip pinch. That matters in two places: on a drawer next to a wall or a range panel, and on inset doors where the pull swings through a tight opening. The base sits 7/8 inch, so the footprint on the face is narrow even though the grip stands proud.
7) What finishes does the Schaub 885 Empire pull come in for matching a whole kitchen or a unit turnover?
Ten finishes: Satin Nickel, Polished Chrome, Ancient Bronze, Antique Nickel, Brushed Bronze, Brushed Nickel, Empire Bronze, Matte Black, Polished Nickel, and Signature Satin Brass. That's the complete finish range on the 885, so if you're standardizing a kitchen, a run of units, or a hospitality build, you can pull every opening from the same finish code. Empire Bronze is the collection's signature finish and is specific to this line.
8) Which of the Orca Hardware cabinet options can replace a 6 inch Empire pull, and which cannot?
Only one of them is a pull. The Orca Hardware CK-12001 is a T-pull bar with a 2 inch bar width in steel, satin nickel, so it is a pull-style part although its bar width is not the 6 inch center-to-center spacing the Schaub 885 Empire pull uses. The Orca CK-15030 round, CK-16030 round ring, and CK-17025 square parts are cabinet knobs, not pulls: CK-15030 and CK-16030 are 1-1/4 inch diameter and CK-17025 is 25mm. A knob mounts on a single hole, so none of the three will cover a drawer front already drilled for two screws on 6 inch centers.
9) The specifier called out a transitional pull and the samples on the table are modern bar pulls. Are those the same thing?
They are different styles. The Schaub 885 Empire pull is a transitional cabinet pull from the Empire collection. The Omnia 1969, 1970, and 1971 are modern cabinet pulls, the Deltana SBP35 is a modern square bar pull, and the Emtek Bar cabinet pull in the Schaub Collection is a bar-profile pull. If the drawing specifies transitional, a modern square or round bar pull is a different design family even when the center-to-center matches, so the substitution should go back to whoever wrote the spec before the cabinets are drilled.
10) For a large multi-family cabinet package, which pull line offers the most center-to-center options under one series?
For standardizing a run of cabinets, the Trimco 562 series drawer pulls carry 3-1/2 inch, 4 inch, and 96mm center-to-center options within a single series, and the Trimco 553 series covers 3 inch center to center. The Schaub 885 Empire pull is a single 6 inch center-to-center size with a 6-1/2 inch overall length, offered across ten finishes including satin nickel, polished chrome, matte black, and signature satin brass, so it standardizes on finish across a property rather than on a range of hole spacings.
11) What's the difference between the Schaub Empire pull and Emtek's Schaub Collection pulls?
Emtek sells several pulls under the Schaub Collection banner, including the Emtek 8405 SELECT, the Alexander, the Art Deco, and the Bar cabinet pull. Those are separate series with their own profiles. The 885 is the Empire collection, transitional styling, zinc base, 6 inch centers, 1-1/4 inch projection. If you're trying to match hardware already installed, match the collection name and the center-to-center measurement, not just the brand, because the Schaub name appears across several distinct series.
12) Can an SDC SP50 spindle be used in place of a Schaub 885 cabinet pull?
No. The SDC SP50 is a 50mm spindle and a door controls part, not cabinet hardware. The Schaub 885 Empire is a cabinet pull that mounts to a drawer or door front with 8/32 x 1 inch screws on 6 inch centers. A spindle passes through a lock or latch mechanism and has no mounting relationship to a cabinet front, so it is not a substitute in either direction.
