1) Will the Schlage B662 deadbolt fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door with a 2-3/4 inch backset?
Yes. The B662 covers door thicknesses from 1-3/8 to 2 inches, and the deadbolt latch is adjustable for either a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset, so a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door with either common backset is covered without ordering a special latch.
2) Can I drop the B662 into an existing deadbolt prep, or does the door need new boring?
It uses the standard deadbolt prep: a 2-1/8 inch cross bore in the face and a 1 inch edge bore, with a 1 inch housing diameter latch. If your door is already bored for a conventional commercial deadbolt at 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset, the B662 goes in without new holes. The face plate is a 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 inch square corner.
3) Is a double cylinder deadbolt like the B662 legal on an exit door, or should I use a single cylinder instead?
Keyed both sides means nobody leaves without a key, which is why the B662 is specified for storefronts and glass-insert doors where a thumbturn could be reached through broken glass. On a required means of egress, most codes will not allow a double keyed deadbolt on an occupied space, so for those openings use a single cylinder with an interior thumbturn from the same B600 Series. Check the occupancy with your AHJ before committing to E0141.
4) Can I use the Schlage B662 on a fire rated door?
The B662 is UL 10C / cUL Listed for use on fire doors up to 3 hours, and it is ANSI/BHMA A156.36 Grade 1 certified. Note that fire door assemblies generally require positive latching, so a deadbolt alone is not the latching device, it supplements a latching lock or exit device.
5) What is the difference between the P6, B and J cylinder options on the Schlage B662?
Three cylinder builds are offered. P6 ships as a 6-pin conventional cylinder in the C keyway, ready to key. B is SFIC less core, so you supply and install your own small format interchangeable core. J is FSIC less core, for Schlage full size interchangeable cores. If you already run a facility-wide interchangeable core system, order B or J and pin your own cores; if you just need a keyed deadbolt, take P6.
6) Will the B662 latch into the strike already in my frame?
The bolt throws a full 1 inch, and the supplied strike is a 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inch square corner. An existing 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 square corner deadbolt strike will accept it. If the frame has a radius corner strike cutout, you will need to swap the strike or file the prep. The package includes a heavy duty frame reinforcer plate and 3 inch anchor screws to catch the stud behind the frame.
7) If I order the SFIC or FSIC version of the B662, do I get keys with it?
Two keys are listed as included, but the B and J options are supplied less core, so the core itself is not in the box. Plan on providing SFIC or FSIC cores and keys from your own keying system for those. The P6 conventional option is the one that arrives with a cylinder already in it.

If your concern is only forced entry and not unauthorized keys, the same Grade 1 heavy duty body with a conventional C keyway cylinder gets you the 1 inch sintered steel bolt and anti-drill ball bearings without the key control program.
