Schlage 47267029 Exterior Coin Turn, For Use With ALX40

From the outside face, the ALX40 privacy lock releases through a coin turn: a slotted turn piece you rotate with a coin, a flat screwdriver, or the edge of a key to retract the privacy latch when someone is locked in. The Schlage 47267029 is that exterior coin turn, sold on its own as a service part for the ALX40. It is the emergency release only, so it does not lock or unlock the door from the outside in normal use.

No. The coin turn is available by itself as Schlage part 47267029, matched to the ALX40, so a stripped or snapped turn piece is a parts swap rather than a new leverset. That matters on a building where the levers are already keyed and finished to match: you keep the existing lock and change the one damaged component.

Eight BHMA finishes are offered: 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 609 Antique Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 622 Matte Black, 625 Bright Chrome, and 626 Satin Chrome. Order by the BHMA number stamped or specified on the lock you are repairing rather than by the finish name, since satin chrome (626) and bright chrome (625) read almost the same in a photo and 612 and 613 are both bronzes. If your restroom levers were specified 626, the 626 coin turn drops in without the outside face looking patched.

Schlage specifies the 47267029 coin turn for the ALX40, and that is the fit it is sold against. It is a function-specific service part, not a universal outside trim piece, so if the lock on your door is another ALX function or a different Schlage series, order the release part called out for that lock instead. Check the function stamped on the chassis or on the original submittal before you order.

Exterior here refers to the outside face of the door, the side you are standing on when someone has locked the privacy latch from within. It is not a weather rating. The ALX40 the 47267029 serves is a privacy function, which is what goes on restrooms, changing rooms, patient rooms, and bedrooms, so the part lives on an interior opening. A perimeter door needs a keyed function lock, not a privacy lock with a coin release.

No, and that is deliberate. A coin turn is an emergency release, not a cylinder: anyone with a coin, a dime, or a flat screwdriver can retract the latch from the corridor side. The Schlage 47267029 gives the ALX40 that release and nothing more. If the opening actually needs to be secured against the public side, the lock itself has to change to a keyed function; no coin turn variant will do it.
