Schlage 26-064 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Schlage 26-064 a complete keyed cylinder or just the mortise housing?
It is the mortise housing, the stainless steel shell that carries the core, and it ships with a straight cam. The keyed core is a separate item, so order the core in the keyway and keying combination the building runs on. This is a rebuild and conversion part rather than a finished cylinder, which is why the housing, cam and core are specified separately.
2) Does the Schlage 26-064 include the compression ring and spring, or do I order those separately?
Both are in the box. The 26-064 is supplied as the mortise housing with a straight cam plus the compression ring and spring. Those two pieces take up the space between the cylinder and the lock face so the cylinder seats tight in the prep with the keyway upright and no play. What you still need on the truck is the core and the cut keys.
3) Will a straight cam mortise cylinder work in a Schlage L9000 mortise lock?
Check the cam before you order, because the 26-064 comes with a straight cam and that is not what an L9000 runs. Cylinders built for Schlage L9000 mortise locks carry an A01 cloverleaf cam, which is exactly how the Corbin Russwin 1080 1-1/2 inch LFIC mortise cylinder is configured for that lock. On the Schlage modular cylinder the cam is one of the pieces you change, along with the tailpiece and rear housing, so match the cam to the lock you are servicing instead of assuming a straight cam drops in.
4) Do I have to specify hand of door when ordering the Schlage 26-064 mortise housing?
No handing to call out. The 26-064 is non-handed, so the same housing goes into a left hand or right hand mortise lock with no difference in the part. The variables that actually decide whether it works are the cam and the rear housing length, not the swing of the door.
5) Can a Schlage modular mortise cylinder be built long enough for a thicker door?
Yes, and the rear housing is what does it. Schlage offers six rear housing lengths on the modular cylinder specifically to reach through thicker doors, so you set overall length by choosing that piece rather than buying a different cylinder. The front housing carries the finish and the cam sets the lock interface, so a thick door only changes the rear housing selection.
6) Can one Schlage modular cylinder be used for mortise, rim and key-in-lever locks?
That is the whole idea behind the line. One cylinder converts to three cylinder types by changing the tailpiece, cam or rear housing, covering mortise, rim, and key-in-lever or key-in-knob applications. The 26-064 is the mortise configuration with a straight cam. For a locksmith or a maintenance shop it means stocking cylinders plus a handful of housings and cams instead of three separate finished cylinders in every keyway and finish.
7) Can a Schlage modular mortise cylinder be keyed into an existing Everest 29 or Primus XP master key system?
Yes. The modular cylinder supports interchangeability between Everest 29, Primus XP and Classic key systems, and is available in all Schlage keyways. For a facility running restricted Primus XP on the perimeter and Classic cylinders on interior doors, the same 26-064 housing serves both openings and the core is what gets specified to the system that door belongs to.
8) Can I get the Schlage 26-064 mortise housing in a finish that matches the rest of my door hardware?
Eleven finishes are available: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 626AM satin chrome antimicrobial and 643E aged bronze. That covers the usual commercial standards and the darker architectural finishes, and the 626AM option is there for healthcare and other facilities standardizing on antimicrobial hardware. Since only the front housing shows on the door, matching that piece to the lock finish is all the visual match takes.
9) I need a mortise cylinder for an aluminum storefront door. Is the Schlage 26-064 the right part?
Probably not, and it comes down to what lock is in the stile. The 26-064 is a mortise housing for Schlage modular cylinders and Schlage cores. Aluminum storefront doors are usually running Adams Rite hardware, and the Adams Rite 4036 is the Grade 1 mortise cylinder built for that, working down to a 1/2 inch minimum door thickness that a narrow stile demands. If the opening has an MS1847 deadlock and you need the cylinder built into a pull, the Adams Rite 4024 uses trim plate mounting and the 4025 uses through-screws. For a wood door deadlock, the 4026 is the one cut for the Adams Rite 5017.
10) What mortise cylinder alternatives are there if the building is not keyed to Schlage?
Three directions, depending on the system already in the doors. For a straight cam application on another manufacturer's key system, the Corbin Russwin 1000 Grade 1 mortise cylinder carries an A02 straight cam and is the closest like-for-like. If you want a Schlage C keyway without buying Schlage, the Detex MC65 is a 6-pin mortise cylinder cut for Schlage C at 1-1/8 inch. Where the site is on small format interchangeable core, the BEST 1C 5-pin core or the 1CB Peaks 150 series core is the direction to go, since the whole point of that system is pulling and swapping cores with a control key rather than rebuilding housings.
11) We are replacing a mortise cylinder on a Corbin Russwin opening and the lock takes a straight cam. What lines up with the Schlage 26-064?
The Corbin Russwin CR1000-112 is the closest match on cam geometry: a 1000 series Grade 1 mortise cylinder in a 1-1/2 in length with an A02 straight cam, and the Schlage 26-064 carries a straight cam as well. The difference is how the two are built. The 26-064 is an interchangeable core mortise housing supplied with a compression ring and spring, so the core is a separate part that drops into the housing; the CR1000-112 is a complete conventional mortise cylinder pinned as one unit. The 26-064 is non-handed, so the same housing serves either hand of door.
12) The mortise lock we are retrofitting needs a cloverleaf cam, not a straight one. What should we be ordering instead of the 26-064?
The Schlage 26-064 is supplied with a straight cam, so a cloverleaf tail calls for a different part. The Corbin Russwin CR1070-114-A01 is a 1-1/4 in 6-pin mortise housing in the Grade 1 1070 series with the A01 cloverleaf cam. If the opening is a Schlage L9000 mortise lock and you want to stay on an interchangeable core, the Corbin Russwin CR1080-112-A01 is a 1-1/2 in LFIC mortise cylinder, 6-pin, listed for Schlage L9000 mortise locks, in the Grade 1 1080 series with the A01 cloverleaf cam. Both are mortise-type parts, as the 26-064 is.
13) Our campus is keyed on BEST interchangeable cores. What parts keep us on that standard instead of the Schlage 26-064?
The 26-064 is built around Schlage key systems, supporting interchangeability between Everest 29, Primus XP and Classic, and it falls in the K510-730 cylinder and keyway range. A facility standardized on BEST works from BEST parts: the 1CB is a Peaks 1CB 150 series interchangeable core cylinder, the 1C5 is a standard 5-pin cylinder core from the Standard and Premium Cores line, and the 1CDF is a drill resistant patented interchangeable core, 7-pin, brass, in the 150 series. There is also a structural difference worth naming: the 26-064 is the mortise housing itself, supplied with a compression ring and spring, while a part like the 1C5 is the core that seats inside a housing.
14) Everything on the property is keyed Schlage C and we do not run interchangeable cores. Is there a plain mortise cylinder for that?
The Detex MC65 fits that description: an MC65 series mortise cylinder with a Schlage C keyway, 1-1/8 in, 6-pin, commercial grade, supplied as a single pinned cylinder. The Schlage 26-064 comes at the same opening differently. It is a commercial mortise housing that receives a separate interchangeable core, and the modular cylinder behind it converts between mortise, rim and key-in-lever by changing the tailpiece, cam or rear housing. Its front housing is offered in finishes to match the locks, including 626 satin chrome and 613 oil rubbed bronze, if you are matching what is already on the other doors.
15) The exit devices in the same building take rim cylinders. What is the counterpart to the 26-064 there?
The Corbin Russwin 3070-178 is a 3070 6-pin rim cylinder housing with a 1-7/8 in tailpiece in the 3000 series. It is a housing, as the 26-064 is, but driven by a tailpiece for a rim application rather than by a cam for a mortise lock. Where an opening needs the appearance of a cylinder without keying it, the BEST 12E series dummy rim cylinder has a 1-5/32 in diameter. On the Schlage side, the same modular cylinder converts between mortise, rim and key-in-lever by changing the tailpiece, cam or rear housing, and the 26-064 is the mortise configuration of it with a straight cam.
16) Half the doors on our site are mortise and half are key-in-lever. What covers the lever cylinders alongside the 26-064?
The Falcon A23161-05 G is a key-in-lever cylinder, RU/T series with a 6-pin G keyway, keyed different and supplied with two cut keys, in the Q330 series. Kaba Ilco covers the same ground with the 1539 series key-in-knob and lever universal cylinder, the 1599 key-in-knob replacement cylinder, and the 1579 knob and lever cylinder for Sargent hardware. The Schlage 26-064 is the mortise configuration, with a straight cam, and the modular cylinder it belongs to is adaptable to key-in-lever or key-in-knob applications by changing the tailpiece, cam or rear housing.
17) A supplier offered a Medeco 1075127 as a swap for the 26-064. Are those the same kind of part?
They are different families. The Medeco 1075127 is a 5-pin rim type lazy motion single cylinder for handlesets and deadbolts, and the Medeco 1012040 alongside it is a 6-pin lazy motion rim cylinder for Kwikset single cylinder deadbolts. Both are rim type cylinders. The Kaba Ilco 1549 is a key-in-deadbolt cylinder, again a deadbolt function part. The Schlage 26-064 is a mortise part: an interchangeable core mortise housing with a straight cam, supplied with a compression ring and spring, in a stainless steel build.
18) The office suite entries run Emtek handlesets. Does the same cylinder program cover those?
Those take a different part. The Emtek CY4 cylinder is sold each as an Emtek component, and Medeco offers retrofits for the same hardware: the 1065244 is a 5-pin rim lazy motion rim type cylinder with an Emtek tailpiece, and the 1065140 is a 5-pin retrofit cylinder for the Arrow JL interconnected lock and the Emtek handleset and deadbolt outside cylinder. The Schlage 26-064 sits on the commercial side as a mortise housing with a straight cam, supplied with a compression ring and spring, and keyed within the K510-730 cylinder and keyway range.
