1) My mortise lock takes a straight cam. Will the Schlage L cam cylinder work in it?
No. A cam is not a universal fitting, and the 30-022 is supplied with the Schlage L cam, part L583-475. A lock case cut for a straight cam or a cloverleaf cam will not be driven by it. Handing matters here. The 30-022 is a handed cylinder, ordered as either LH left hand or RH right hand, and the two are not interchangeable, so establish the hand of the lock before the order goes in. Stand outside the opening: if the hinges are on your left it is a left hand door, on your right a right hand door. Get it wrong and the cam sits the wrong way round in the lock case.
3) What do I have to specify when I order a Schlage 30-022 mortise cylinder?
Three things decide the part number on a 30-022: hand (LH or RH), keyway, and finish. There are 26 keyways to choose from and 11 finishes, from 605 bright brass and 626 satin chrome through to 622 matte black and 643E aged bronze. Two cut keys come with the cylinder.
