Schlage Electronics CO-100 Standalone Electronic Surface Vertical Rod Exit Device Trim, Classroom/Storeroom Function, Keypad Reader

The CO-100 exit trim is built for surface vertical rod devices and Schlage states the CO Series is compatible with most major brands of exit devices, not just its own. It is trim only, so you keep the exit device already on the door and replace the outside pull with the keypad trim. Mechanical key override is standard and works with cylinders from Schlage and other popular brands.

The CO Series carries UL 10C, the fire door test standard, along with UL 294 for access control, UL Canada, FCC Part 15 and ADA. Exit trim meets or exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.3, and the lock is Grade 1 heavy duty. The exit device itself has to be fire labeled too, since a fire rated opening is only as good as the whole assembly.

Handing is a required choice when ordering, and field reversible is one of the options alongside RH, LH, RHR and LHR. If you are stocking a spare for a building with doors swinging both ways, take field reversible and set it at the door. If you know the opening, ordering it handed saves the step.

No cylinder is included. You specify the prep instead: B for SFIC prep less core, J for Schlage FSIC prep less core, L for less cylinder entirely, or P for a Schlage standard conventional cylinder. If your building runs an existing master key system, that is the point of the B or J prep, you drop your own core in and the lock joins the keyway you already maintain.

Outside lever is always locked and a valid 3 to 6 digit PIN or the mechanical key releases it; the inside always exits free through the exit device. That makes it the right pick for supply closets, equipment rooms, maintenance areas and gates where you never want the outside left unsecured by accident. If you want the door to stay unlocked for stretches of the day, program the toggle or pass through option rather than choosing a different function.

Yes. The 70 classroom/storeroom function carries ANSI/BHMA A156.25 full outdoor certification, which is the rating that covers weather exposure, and Schlage names pool gates, breezeways and other outdoor applications directly. It runs on four AA batteries with up to two years of life and a low battery indicator, so there is no wiring to run out to the gate.

No wiring and no network. It is a standalone, battery operated lock: up to 500 unique PIN codes are stored on the lock itself and an administrator adds or deletes them at the keypad. That also means there is no central audit or remote lockdown from software, so if you need credentials managed from a server across many doors, this is the wrong tier of product.

They solve different halves of the same opening. The Schlage CO-100 surface vertical rod exit device trim is an electronic, battery-operated trim with a keypad reader in classroom/storeroom function, running on four AA batteries. The Stanley Security QET120 is a Grade 1 heavy-duty exit trim with a dummy lever in ANSI function 02, which is pull-only trim with no locking and no credential. Both are Grade 1. If the door needs PIN-code access control on the outside, the CO-100 is the trim that does it; if the outside lever only needs to be a fixed pull because the device is dogged or the opening is exit-only, the QET120 covers that.

The Stanley Security QED111EDX is a Grade 1 heavy-duty rim type exit device with hex dogging, electric dogging, and request-to-exit (RX) function; it is the panic hardware on the push side. The Schlage CO-100 993S is surface vertical rod exit device trim, the outside keypad lever assembly, and it is not a panic device on its own. A rim device also uses a different latching arrangement than the surface vertical rod application the CO-100 993S trim is built for, so the two are not swapped one for the other.

Six lever styles, Athens, Latitude, Longitude, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular, across seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze. Rhodes and Sparta are the common Schlage mechanical lever shapes, so a facility already standardized on Schlage levers can keep the same look on the keypad opening.

If the exit device on the door is sound and you only need credentialed entry from the outside, trim is the cheaper and faster job: the device stays, the panic function stays certified as installed, and you swap the outside trim. Replace the whole device when the existing one is worn, wrong type for the opening, or you need functions built into the device itself, such as the Stanley Security QED111EDX rim device with hex dogging, electric dogging and request to exit.

At the keypad. An administrator level user programs the lock right at the door to add or delete user PIN codes, or to change preferences and functions, with no software and no laptop. Codes are 3 to 6 digits and the lock holds up to 500 of them, which is what makes this workable for a property manager turning over contractor access without recutting keys.

The mechanical key override gets you in. It is standard on the CO Series, which is why the cylinder prep is a required ordering choice. Four AA batteries run the lock up to two years and a status indicator warns before they are done, so a maintenance sweep catches it. No batteries means no keypad, so on a door where nobody carries a key, budget the battery change into a schedule.

The Stanley Security QED111EDX is a Grade 1 heavy-duty rim exit device with electric dogging and a request-to-exit (RX) output, so the opening is controlled by dogging the device from a remote signal instead of presenting a credential at the lever. The Schlage CO-100 keypad trim is a standalone, battery-operated approach with no wire to the door - up to 500 PIN codes are stored on the lock itself and administered at the keypad. Wired electric dogging needs power and a control source at the frame; the CO-100 needs neither.

They share the grade. The Schlage CO-100 993S electronic exit device trim is Grade 1 and heavy duty, and the Stanley Security QED111EDX rim exit device, QET120 exit trim, and QRT320 round rose exit trim are each Grade 1. Where they part is what each does at the opening: the CO-100 is battery-operated keypad trim in classroom/storeroom function, the QED111EDX is the panic device itself with hex and electric dogging plus RX, and the QET120 and QRT320 are dummy lever trims in office/privacy/apartment function. A Grade 1 standard is met by all four; the function and the credential are what you assign per door.

Grade 1, heavy duty, and specified for commercial use. Certification is ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, with the cylindrical chassis meeting ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 1 and the exit trim meeting A156.3. Grade 1 is the top commercial tier under ANSI/BHMA, which is what an institutional spec normally calls for on a main corridor or exterior opening.
