LE Mobile Enabled Wireless Mortise Lock

The Schlage® LE mobile enabled wireless mortise lock is designed to affordably extend electronic access control deeper into the building beyond traditional perimeter and high security openings. It can function in offline or No-Tour mode or as a networked lock with either periodic check-ins or real-time management.

The open architecture design allows the LE to be managed by Allegion software or to be integrated into popular physical access control systems through our PACS Alliance program. 1) Will the Schlage LE mortise lock fit into an existing mortise prep, or does the door have to be re-prepped?
The LE drops into a standard mortise prep with minor modifications, which is the main reason it gets specified for retrofits deeper into a building. It's built on the Schlage L Series Grade 1 mechanical mortise lock body and runs a 2-3/4 inch backset, the standard commercial mortise backset, so the lock case pocket and cross-bore locations line up with what's already in most existing openings. The reader, access control sensors and lock body are all in one assembly, so there are no separate reader plates or wire runs to add to the door frame.
2) Is the Schlage LE wireless mortise lock handed, and can I reverse it in the field?
Handing is set in the field. The LE is field reversible, so a right hand unit can be swapped to the other hand on site without ordering a different part number. That matters if you're buying a batch for a corridor with doors swinging both ways, you order one configuration and set hand at install.
3) What credentials will the Schlage LE lock read? Will it take the 125 kHz prox cards we already issue?
Yes on 125 kHz proximity, that's the reader configuration here. The multi-technology reader also handles 13.56 MHz smart credentials (including Schlage MIFARE Classic and MIFARE DESFire EV), plus Bluetooth (BLE, 2.4 GHz) and NFC mobile credentials. So an existing prox card population keeps working and you can move to mobile later without changing the lock. There's a separate Si reader option that supports HID iCLASS, iCLASS SE, Seos smart and NFC mobile instead.
4) What does the Office function on this Schlage LE mortise lock actually do at the door?
Office function means the lever can be left unlocked for business hours and secured when you leave, rather than latching locked every time the door shuts the way a storeroom function does. This particular LE build is the MD configuration, so it also carries a deadbolt and an LED indicator, which is what enables the storeroom, office, privacy and apartment family of applications on the LE platform. Deadbolt position is one of the status signals the lock reports back, and that is only available on the MD deadbolt version.
5) Do I need a gateway or panel to run the Schlage LE, or can it work standalone?
Both are supported, and it's the decision to make before ordering. The LE runs offline or in No-Tour mode with no infrastructure at all, checks in periodically over a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi access point, or runs real time through the ENGAGE Gateway (RS-485 to an access control panel, or IP to host software). One caveat worth knowing up front: lockdown capability is only available on networked real-time applications using the ENGAGE Gateway with a PACS system, where Wake-up on Radio gets a lock or unlock command to the door in under 5 seconds. If lockdown is a requirement for your facility, you need the gateway, not the offline mode. Gateway communication range is up to 30 feet.
6) Can the Schlage LE be managed by our existing access control software, or are we locked into Allegion?
Open architecture, so either. The LE can be run by Allegion software or integrated into common physical access control systems through Allegion's PACS Alliance program, and you can move to a fully networked solution later without swapping hardware. 7) Does the Schlage LE wireless mortise lock come with a cylinder, and which keyway options can I order?
No cylinder is included in the less-cylinder configurations, and that is the choice to settle on the order form. Three options: J, less cylinder for a Schlage 6 pin FSIC full size interchangeable core; L, less cylinder for a Schlage or Falcon 6 pin KIL; or P, a Schlage standard conventional cylinder. If your building is already on FSIC cores you want J and you supply the core; if you key to a Falcon KIL system, L. All configurations come in 626 satin chrome with either the 03 or 06 lever.
8) Can I use the Schlage LE mortise lock on a fire rated door?
The LE mortise lock carries a 3 hour fire rating, so it can go on openings rated up to 3 hours. That covers stair tower and corridor doors in most commercial and institutional buildings. It is a Grade 1, commercial rated lock.
9) We have Schlage L Series mechanical mortise locks through the building. Will the LE match them?
That's the case the LE is built for. It suites with Schlage mechanical and electrified L Series locks and shares many common parts, so you can electrify selected openings while the rest of the floor stays mechanical and the doors still read as one set. The Greenwich trim here comes in 626 satin chrome with an 03 or 06 lever. If you need matching non-keyed openings in the same L Series look, the Schlage L0170 half dummy trim is a Grade 1 L Series dummy, and the Schlage PM010 is a Grade 1 passage latch mortise lock.
10) Do I need a separate reader, wiring, or power supply at the door to install the Schlage LE?
No. The mortise lock body, credential reader and access control sensors are combined in one assembly, so there's no separate wall reader, no power transfer hinge, and no transformer to run. It's battery powered on 4 AA cells, and configuration is done wirelessly over Bluetooth from a smartphone or tablet. What you still need to supply is the cylinder if you order a less-cylinder configuration, and an ENGAGE Gateway if you want real-time networked operation.
11) How is the Schlage LE powered and how often will my techs be changing batteries?
Four AA batteries, no wiring to the door, with battery life up to 2 years. Battery status is one of the signals the lock reports to the access control system, so on a networked install you get told which door needs service rather than walking the building. For anyone comparing to a wired install: if you want hardwired 12V or 24V operation on a mortise opening instead, the BEST 45HW Series is a wired electromechanical mortise lock, and the Command Access ML190 Series is a motorized mortise lock with field selectable EL/EU operation at 24VDC.

Exterior operating range is -31 to 151 degrees F (-35 to 66 C), so northern exterior openings are within spec. Humidity is 0 to 100 percent non-condensing. Two things to watch: the batteries sit on the interior side and are rated 32 to 120 F (0 to 49 C), so the inside face needs to be in conditioned space, and the LEBSi variant has a narrower exterior low end of -13 F (-25 C).
13) What are the alternatives to the Schlage LE if I want a keypad instead of a card reader on a mortise door?
