The Schlage® NDE mobile enabled wireless cylindrical lock is designed to affordably extend electronic access control deeper into the building beyond traditional perimeter and high security openings. It can function in offline or No-Tour mode or as a networked lock with either periodic check-ins or real-time management.

1) Do I have to specify handing when ordering a Schlage NDE cylindrical lock?
No handing to specify. The NDE is non-handed, which is what makes it practical to stock one lock for a whole floor of openings regardless of swing. What you do have to specify is finish, lever style, and cylinder prep.
2) What cylinder options does the Schlage NDE wireless lock come in, and which do I pick for an SFIC keyway?
Four cylinder preps: B for 6-pin small format IC prep less core, J for full size IC less core, L for less conventional cylinder, and P with a conventional cylinder supplied. The NDE ships with a 47267101 ANSI strike with door position sensor, 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inches with a 1-3/16 inch lip. That is the standard ANSI 4-7/8 frame prep, so on an existing commercial hollow metal frame already cut for ANSI you are dropping into the same cutout. The door position sensor is built into that strike, which is how the lock reports door open or closed back to the access control system, so do not substitute a plain strike if you want that reporting.
4) Is the Schlage NDE wireless lock rated for a fire door?
The NDE carries UL 10C along with UL 294 for access control, and it is ANSI/BHMA certified to A156.25-2013 and A156.2-2011 Series 4000, Grade 1. The description also lists ADA and ICC ANSI A117.1. For a fire rated opening, UL 10C is the positive pressure fire test listing you need on the hardware, and the lock has to be installed on a labeled door and frame assembly to keep the rating.
5) Do I need a gateway or network to run Schlage NDE locks, or can they work standalone?
Both. The NDE runs offline or in No-Tour mode with no infrastructure, updates over a mobile device at the door, checks in daily over a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi access point, or communicates in real time through an ENGAGE Gateway (RS-485 to an access control panel or IP to host). Gateway range is up to about 30 feet in typical building environments, and Allegion recommends a site survey with the ENGAGE Test Kit (TKE) before you commit to gateway placement. Wake-up on radio responds to a host command in under 5 seconds when linked to a gateway. That lets you start offline and move to fully networked later without changing locks.
6) What lock functions can a Schlage NDE be set to, and can I change it after install?
The NDE operates in storeroom, office, privacy, or apartment function using the interior push button with indication. That is a configuration, not a different part number, so one lock covers an office door today and a privacy application later.
