1) Will a Schlage multi-technology reader module read both our old 125 kHz prox cards and our newer smart cards?
Yes. The Schlage Electronics multi-technology reader module reads 125 kHz proximity credentials and 13.56 MHz smart credentials from the same reader, so a building running a mixed card population can be managed on one head instead of two.
2) Can I use this Schlage reader module to migrate a facility from prox cards to smart cards without reissuing everyone at once?
That is exactly the use case. Because the module reads 125 kHz prox and 13.56 MHz smart credentials at the same door, you can issue smart cards to new tenants or staff as they come on and let the old prox cards keep working until they age out, rather than swapping the whole population on one date.
3) Does this Schlage multi-technology reader work on locks other than the AD-Series?
No. It is a reader module built for Schlage Electronics AD-Series locks, not a standalone wall reader and not a module for other lock platforms. If the opening has something other than an AD-Series lock on it, this is the wrong part.
4) We have two card systems in one building after an acquisition. Do we need to replace all the locks?
Not necessarily. On openings already carrying Schlage AD-Series locks, swapping in the multi-technology reader module lets one door accept both the 125 kHz prox credentials from one system and the 13.56 MHz smart credentials from the other. The lock body stays; only the reader head changes.
5) Is there a keypad version of the Schlage AD-Series multi-technology reader if we need card plus PIN?
A backlit keypad version is offered for sites that want two-factor at the door (card plus PIN). The gray module on its own is card-read only, so if your access policy calls for a PIN, specify the keypad variant when you order.
6) What finish does the Schlage AD-Series multi-technology reader module come in?
Gray is the finish offered on this module, and it is the only one. If your AD-Series locks were specified in another housing color and you need the reader to match across a floor, that colour match is not something this part gives you.
