1) Will the Schlage ND92 fit my door, and what backset does it use?
The ND92 is set up for a 1-3/4 inch door with a 2-3/4 inch backset. The standard latch is the 13-247 deadlatch with a square corner 1-1/8 x 2-1/4 faceplate. It uses the common cylindrical ANSI 161 door prep, so it drops into an opening already bored for a standard commercial cylindrical lock. The lock is non-handed, so you don't specify hand when ordering.
2) What does the Vandlgard feature on the Schlage ND92 actually do?
Vandlgard trim lets the outside lever rotate freely up and down while the lock is locked. Someone hanging on the lever or kicking it down is turning a lever that isn't connected to anything, so the force never reaches the chassis. That is the difference between the ND92 and a standard entrance lever in a school corridor, a dorm, or any opening that takes abuse. The lock itself is Grade 1 heavy duty, tested to 3,100 in-lb of abusive lever torque.
3) How does the ND92 entrance function work day to day for a tenant or office user?
Two ways to lock it, both from the inside button. Push and turn the button and the outside lever stays locked until someone manually unlocks the button, so it stays secure even after people pass through. Push the button without turning and the outside lever locks until a key is used or the inside lever is turned, which releases it on the next exit. Inside lever always retracts the latch, so the door is free egress at all times.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering a Schlage ND92?
Four choices. Cylinder: P conventional 6-pin in the Schlage C keyway (standard), L less cylinder, or J less FSIC cylinder. Keying: keyed different (standard) or keyed alike if you want a group of doors on one key, and None if you picked a less-cylinder option because you are supplying your own. Lever design: Athens, Boardwalk, Broadway, Latitude, Longitude, Omega, Rhodes, Sparta or Tubular. Finish: ten of them, from 605 bright brass through 626 satin chrome, 622 matte black, 643E aged bronze and 626AM satin chrome antimicrobial. There is also a free-text field for special cylinder or keying instructions. Keyed locks ship with two nickel silver cut keys.
5) Can I get a set of ND92 locks all on the same key?
Yes, order them keyed alike rather than the standard keyed different. The stock cylinder is a conventional 6-pin in the Schlage C keyway, and the ND Series also takes open, patented and restricted key systems. If your building is on an existing masterkey system, order the L less-cylinder or J less-FSIC version and fit your own cylinders. Three spring cage sets cover all Schlage cylinder formats plus eight competitive formats, so non-Schlage cylinders can be used.
6) Will the ND92 latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It ships with the 10-025 ANSI strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 with a 1-3/16 inch lip and no box. If your frame has an ANSI strike prep that size, the new strike drops straight in. If your existing opening uses a T-strike or a smaller box strike, plan on prepping the frame for ANSI, or reuse your existing strike if it is already ANSI and in good condition. The 1-3/16 inch lip length is sized for a standard frame reveal; a deep reveal or applied stop can need a longer lip.
7) Can I replace an existing ND Series lock with an ND92 without redoing the door?
Yes. Every ND Series lock, including the electronic and ligature-resistant trim versions, uses the same cylindrical ANSI 161 door preparation, so they interchange in the same door. Swapping an ND50 or ND53 entrance lock for the Vandlgard ND92 is a chassis change, not a door change. Same story going the other direction if you later move that opening to an NDE wireless electronic lock.
8) My door is 2 inches thick. Will the Schlage ND92 work?
No. The ND92 is built for a 1-3/4 inch door. For a thicker leaf, look at a lock with a stated range that covers it: the Corbin Russwin CL3110 Grade 1 vandal-resistant lever runs 1-3/4 to 2 inches, the Falcon K101 Grade 1 goes 1-3/8 to 2-1/4 inches, and the Hager 2525 Grade 2 commercial entry lever covers 1-3/8 to 2 inches. Measure the leaf before you order, because a cylindrical chassis outside its thickness range will not clamp up correctly.
9) What is the closest Grade 1 keyed entrance lever to the Schlage ND92 if Schlage is not available?
The Dexter C1000 entry/office lever is the nearest heavy-duty keyed peer, listed as a Grade 1 cylindrical lever lock with an entrance/office function and a 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness range. 13) Which locks keep the Schlage C keyway if I have to substitute for an ND92 in a keyed-alike building?
The ND92 uses the S123 cylinder and keyway with a conventional 6-pin Schlage C cylinder as the standard build. For a 2 inch door in Grade 1, the Corbin Russwin CL3110 vandal resistant lever covers 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch, the Falcon K101 heavy duty passage lock covers 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch, and the Dexter C1000 asylum lock covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. Those are non-keyed or non-entrance functions, so confirm the function before you commit.
15) Is the Arrow HK11 turn-pushbutton entrance lock the same thing as a Schlage ND92?
They share the locking behavior but not the trim or the grade. The Arrow HK11 is a turn-pushbutton entrance cylindrical lock with a conventional cylinder, listed as Grade 2 with a ball knob for a 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door. The ND92 is Grade 1, uses a lever rather than a knob, and carries Vandlgard trim. On an accessible opening the knob is the deciding difference, since the ND92 lever meets ADA requirements.

24) Do the residential grade entrance levers work as a substitute for a Schlage ND92 on a commercial door?
They are built to a different duty. The Cal-Royal AUS00 is a Grade 3 entrance/office lever with a solid brass forged body for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Callan Artino is a Grade 3 entrance leverset, and the Kwikset 200BRNL Breton is a Grade 3 passage lever for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. 25) Will a Baldwin or Emtek lever set do the same job as a Schlage ND92?
