1) Will the Schlage PM056 mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. 1-3/4 inches (44 mm) is the standard door thickness for the PM056, with 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) the minimum. It also goes into doors up to 2-1/2 inches thick, but over 1-3/4 inches you have to specify the door thickness and the lock position in the door, and that is available in EE only. The backset is 2-3/4 inches with no other option, so the mortise pocket and face prep have to be laid out to that.

No handing to specify. The PM056 chassis is field reversible, so the same lock covers a left or right hand opening and you can flip it at install without a different part number. That is useful for a property manager stocking one lock for a whole building instead of two.
