1) Is the Schneider Homeline 125A load center a main breaker panel or main lug?
It is a main lug panel. The line connection is lugs, not a factory-installed main breaker, so the overcurrent protection has to come from upstream, typically a breaker in the service panel or meter main feeding it. Schneider calls the design convertible mains, meaning the interior can take a main breaker kit instead of straight lug feed. Both the line and bus are rated 125 A.
2) Which Homeline 125A main lug part number do I order for the number of circuits I need?
Three sizes: HOM1224L125PC gives 12 spaces, HOM2040L125PC gives 20 spaces, and HOM3060L125PC gives 30 spaces. The space count is the number of full-size breaker positions; tandem breakers raise the circuit count above that, which is why the family is described as 8 to 60 circuits.
3) Can this Homeline panel be installed outdoors or in a wet location?
No. It is an indoor load center only, built as a welded sheet steel enclosure with a combination flush/surface cover. For a service point on an exterior wall you need a rainproof outdoor-rated enclosure instead.
4) Does the Homeline 125A load center come with a ground bar?
No, the grounding bar is a separate order. Plan on adding one for every install, and on a subfeed panel you will need it to keep grounds separate from the isolated neutral. The listed accessory for the panel is the HOMFPCP cover plate kit.
5) Is 10 kA short circuit rating enough for a residential subpanel?
The panel carries a 10 kA short circuit current rating, which covers typical single-family and multi-family residential service where the available fault current at the panel is under 10,000 A. On a job where the utility transformer is close and the engineer has calculated available fault current above 10 kA, this enclosure is not the right choice and you need higher-rated gear. It is UL listed under file E-6294.
6) Can I use this as a 125A subpanel fed from an existing 200A service?
Yes, that is the common use. Because it is a main lug panel rated 125 A on line and bus, it is fed from a 125 A or smaller breaker in the upstream panel. Order the grounding bar separately so you can land the equipment grounds on the enclosure and keep the neutral floating, as a subpanel requires.
7) What does Plug-On Neutral mean on a Homeline panel, and does it change which AFCI breakers I buy?
Plug-On Neutral puts the neutral connection on the bus, so Homeline plug-on neutral AFCI and GFCI breakers snap in and pick up neutral without a pigtail wire to the neutral bar. That cuts wiring time and clutter in the gutter. You get the benefit only with Homeline plug-on neutral style breakers; standard Homeline AFCI/GFCI breakers with pigtails will still fit the bus but you wire the pigtail to the neutral bar as usual.
8) Is this Homeline panel single-phase or three-phase?
Single-phase. It is a single-phase convertible mains indoor load center for 120/240 V residential distribution, so it is not suitable for a three-phase commercial service.
9) Can I mount the Homeline 125A panel on the surface of a finished basement wall, or does it have to be recessed?
Either works. The cover is a combination flush/surface type, so the same panel handles a recessed install in open framing and a surface install on a finished or masonry wall without a different trim.
