Plan on ordering the box and trim separately, sized to the 20 inch nominal enclosure width this interior is built for, plus the branch breakers.
2) How many pole spaces can I get in the Schneider NQ L2C 400A interior?
Three pole-space counts are offered: 42 circuits (NQ442L4C), 72 circuits (NQ472L4C), and 84 circuits (NQ484L4C). All three are 400A main lug, 3-phase 4-wire copper interiors. Pick the count by the branch circuit schedule on your drawing, and remember a 2-pole or 3-pole breaker consumes two or three of those spaces.
3) Main lug or main breaker: which panelboard interior do I need?
The NQ L2C interior is main lug only, so it has no integral overcurrent device at the top. Size your box and trim to the 20 inch dimension, and use the 10.44 inch figure when you are checking the assembly through a door or into an existing can.
7) Is copper or aluminum bus better for a commercial panelboard interior, and which is this one?
This NQ L2C interior is copper bus. Copper has lower resistance per cross-section than aluminum, so it runs cooler at the same ampacity and is commonly specified on healthcare, data, and institutional jobs where the drawing says copper bus outright. If your spec only calls for aluminum bus, a copper interior still satisfies it; the reverse is not true, so check the bus material note on the panel schedule before you substitute.
8) Can I put a 400A NQ interior in an existing panel can that was fed at a lower amperage?
The interior is rated 400A at the line side, so the feeder, upstream breaker, and lugs all have to be good for the load you intend to put on it. Reusing an older can only works if the box is the 20 inch nominal width this interior is built for and the existing conductors and upstream protection are sized for what you are serving. If the existing enclosure is a narrower NQOD or load center box, the interior will not land in it.
9) Which NQ part number do I order for an 84 circuit 400A main lug panel?
NQ484L4C is the 84 pole space version of the 400A NQ L2C main lug copper interior. The 72 space is NQ472L4C and the 42 space is NQ442L4C.
