1) Will a Schneider QO tandem breaker fit any panel, or only a QO load center?
The QO tandem breaker is a plug-in device made for Schneider Electric QO load centers. It plugs onto the bus rather than bolting on, so it will not fit Homeline, or another brand's panel. Check the label inside your panel door for QO before ordering.
2) Does a QO1515 tandem breaker take two circuits in one panel slot?
Yes. The tandem design puts two protected circuits into a single panel space, so a QO1515 gives you two 15A circuits where you previously had one breaker position. The QO2020 does the same with two 20A circuits.
3) My QO panel is full. Can I add circuits with tandem breakers instead of a subpanel?
Only if the panel allows it. A QO tandem occupies one space and delivers two circuits, so it is the usual way to free up capacity without a subpanel, but the load center's label states how many tandem (CTL) positions it accepts and where. If your panel is not rated for tandems in that position, the breaker will not seat properly and you need a subpanel or a panel change instead.
4) Can I use a QO tandem breaker on an air conditioner or heat pump circuit?
These are HACR rated, which is the rating required for branch circuit protection on heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment with motor loads. Match the amperage to the equipment nameplate maximum overcurrent protection. Note both amperage options are single pole per circuit, so a 240V compressor needing a two pole breaker is not served by this tandem.
5) Is the QO tandem a one pole or two pole breaker?
It is 1P, single pole, with each of the two circuits protecting one hot conductor at 120V. If you need a 240V circuit, a tandem is the wrong device; specify a two pole QO breaker.
