Metallics JTEKDF25 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size and head style is the Metallics JTEKDF25 screw?
It's a #6 x 1/2 inch screw with a Phillips flat head, self-drilling with a #2 point, in zinc-plated steel. The flat head sits flush when driven into a countersunk or self-countersinking seat, which is what you want under a plate or bracket that has to lie flat.
2) Do I need to pre-drill for these #6 x 1/2 self-drilling screws?
No. The JTEKDF25 is a self-drilling screw with a #2 drill point, so it cuts its own hole as it drives, no pilot hole needed in sheet metal. A #2 point is the common choice for light-gauge steel such as electrical boxes, strut, and stud track.
3) How many screws come in a jar of Metallics JTEKDF25?
Each jar holds 100 screws. Metallics ships this one in jar pack, which is the handy count for a service van or a parts bin rather than a bulk box.
4) Are zinc-plated self-drilling screws like the JTEKDF25 okay for outdoor or wet locations?
Zinc plating on steel is a mild corrosion coating meant for dry interior work, so the JTEKDF25 is best kept to indoor use. For exterior, damp, or coastal openings, specify a stainless or heavier-coated fastener instead.
