2) Is the QK530M a sharp point screw or a self-drilling screw?
Sharp point, not self-drilling. The QK530M is a type T self-tapping screw with a pointed tip, so it starts in wood, light gauge metal studs and pre-punched holes without pre-drilling, but it will not cut its own hole through heavier steel. For thicker gauge steel you want a self-drilling point instead.
3) Can I drive the QK530M with a 5/16 nut driver, or do I need a screwdriver bit?
Either works. The 5/16 inch indented hex washer head takes a standard 5/16 nut driver, which is what most electricians use for speed in a drill, and the head also carries a combo recess so a Phillips or slotted bit will drive it when you cannot get a nut driver onto the head.
4) What does the hex washer head on the QK530M do that a flat head screw would not?
The indented hex washer head has an integral flange that seats on the surface instead of countersinking. That gives it bearing area to clamp strap, box ears, conduit clamps and panel flanges down without pulling through a thin part, and it leaves the head proud rather than sunk. If you need the head flush in the material, this is the wrong screw.
