1) Are the Metallics WDS20MSS screws self-drilling, or do I need to pre-drill?
Self-drilling. The WDS20MSS is a #10 x 3/4 inch drill-point screw, so the tip cuts its own hole in sheet metal and no pilot hole is needed for light-gauge work such as hanging strut, device boxes, or sheet metal duct and track.
2) What material are these 10 x 3/4 drill point screws made of, and will they hold up outdoors?
They are 410 stainless steel. 410 is a hardenable martensitic stainless, which is why it can be used for a drill point at all, and it gives better corrosion resistance than plain carbon steel while staying hard enough to cut steel. It is not as corrosion resistant as 300-series stainless, so for constant salt or wet exposure a 300-series fastener is the better choice.
3) Will a pan head screw sit flush, or do I need a flat head for a countersunk hole?
The WDS20MSS has a pan head, which seats on top of the surface with a low rounded profile. It will not sit flush in a countersunk hole. For a flush finish in a chamfered or countersunk hole you need a flat head screw instead.
4) How many screws come in a box of Metallics WDS20MSS?
