Metallics MSS14114 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Metallics MSS14114 socket shoulder screw, and how many come in a pack?
The Metallics MSS14114 is a 1/4 x 1-1/4 inch socket shoulder screw, sold 25 pieces to a pack. Order by part number MSS14114.
2) What does a socket shoulder screw do differently from a standard socket head cap screw?
A socket shoulder screw like the Metallics MSS14114 has a precision ground unthreaded shoulder between the head and the threads, so it works as a pivot or bearing surface for rotating or sliding parts. A socket head cap screw is threaded up toward the head and is meant purely to clamp two parts together. If you need something to turn or slide on the fastener, the shoulder screw is the right type; if you just need a bolted joint, use a cap screw.
3) What size hex key drives a 1/4 inch socket shoulder screw?
A 1/4 inch shoulder diameter socket shoulder screw, such as the Metallics MSS14114, takes an internal hex (Allen) drive, so you will need a hex key or hex bit rather than a screwdriver or wrench on the head. Confirm the key size against the screw before you buy a single tool for a batch job.
