The DSK10 tray holds 245 pieces of #10 hex washer head Type A sheet metal screws, split as 75 at 1/2 inch, 50 at 3/4 inch, 45 at 1 inch, 30 at 1-1/4 inch, 25 at 1-1/2 inch, and 20 at 2 inch. A 5/16 inch by 1-5/8 inch hex nut driver is included in the tray, so you can run them with a drill right out of the box.

Type A screws like these are made for thin sheet, 0.015 to 0.050 inch thick, and will also self-start in resin-filled plywood. The gimlet point does the starting. For heavier gauge steel or structural work, a Type A is the wrong choice, you want a self-drilling (TEK style) screw instead.

Both work. The head is a hex washer with a slot, so you can run it with the included 5/16 inch hex nut driver on a drill or back it out with a flat blade. Slot width is 0.050 to 0.060 inch and slot depth 0.057 to 0.072 inch, and width across corners on the hex is 0.34 inch.

Washer outside diameter runs 0.384 to 0.414 inch with a washer thickness of 0.019 to 0.031 inch, head width 0.305 to 0.312 inch and head height 0.105 to 0.120 inch. That flange spreads the load so the head does not pull through thin gauge sheet, which is why it is the common head for strut, box and duct work.

Type A, which is what the DSK10 kit contains, has wider spaced threads than a Type AB and a gimlet point. The coarser pitch, 12 threads per inch at #10, grabs better in very thin sheet and in resin-filled plywood. Type AB has a finer pitch and is the more general purpose choice when you are going into slightly heavier material or want it to work in both metal and plastic.

These are steel screws with a zinc finish, which is a mild indoor corrosion coating. They are intended for electrical, plumbing and HVAC work inside a building. For exterior or damp exposure, step up to stainless or a hot dip galvanized fastener.

Case hardness is Rockwell C28-38 with a minimum torsional strength of 48 lb-in at #10. Driven at sane speed into 0.015 to 0.050 inch sheet they will form thread without shearing. They are not a structural fastener, so do not use them to carry load.

Threads are to ASME B18.6.4 and dimensions to ASME B18.6.3-2010, with steel to AISI 1016-1024. One note for spec work: dimensions for #9 diameter are independent of ASME B18.6.4.
