Metallics THS1B – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What do the abbreviations in the Metallics THS1B screw description mean?
THS1B is a #6 x 1 inch trim head drywall screw: SD is self-drilling, FT is full thread, S-Pt is sharp point, DWS is drywall screw, and Blk-P is black phosphate coating. It comes as a bulk pack of 10,000 pieces.
2) Is a trim head #6 x 1 inch drywall screw the right choice for fastening trim over drywall?
That is what the trim head profile is for. The small head on the Metallics THS1B sinks below the surface of wood trim without blowing out the face, so it can be filled and painted, unlike a standard bugle head drywall screw that leaves a wide dish. At 1 inch with full thread and a sharp point, it is sized for light trim and panel work into wood studs or drywall, not for structural fastening.
3) Will the black phosphate finish on these drywall screws hold up outdoors?
No. Black phosphate is an interior-only coating, it offers only mild corrosion resistance and will rust in wet or exterior exposure. Use the THS1B for dry interior drywall and trim work, and specify a coated or stainless exterior screw for anything outside or in damp locations.
4) How many screws come in a box of Metallics THS1B?
The pack is 10,000 pieces, a contractor bulk quantity rather than a small jobsite box. For MRO stockrooms and crews running trim or drywall continuously it is a single standing item; for a one-off repair it is far more than the job needs.
