1) What size and drive type is the Metallics TP524SFC screw?
The Metallics TP524SFC is a #8 x 2 inch sheet metal screw with a flat head and a hex-pin tamper-resistant drive. The tradeoff is that you and anyone servicing the equipment later must carry the matching pin-hex bit. If the fastener is on a routinely opened panel and tampering is not a concern, a standard Phillips or hex-washer-head sheet metal screw is the easier choice.
5) Do I need a pilot hole for #8 self-tapping sheet metal screws?
In sheet metal, yes, a pilot or punched hole sized for a #8 thread is normal practice; sheet metal screw threads cut their own path but still need a hole close to the root diameter to start straight and avoid stripping. The TP524SFC's 2 inch length also means it is long enough to pass through a panel and thread into framing or a backing member, so check that the fastener has somewhere to land before driving.
