1) Will a magnetic lock hold an outdoor gate, or do I need a different lock for exterior use?
The SDC 1575 Series is built specifically for exterior gates. The electronics are totally sealed in an epoxy-filled stainless steel case, and a threaded conduit fitting protects the wire run where it enters the housing. Standard interior mag locks put unsealed boards and open wire entries out in the weather, which is where they fail. This one works on manual or automatic gates, swinging or sliding, tubular or iron.
2) What is the difference between the SDC 1575 and the 1576 gate lock?
Mounting method. The 1575 is the standard single magnetic gate lock; the 1576 is the face-drilled version, meaning the magnet body is drilled to take fasteners through its face for through-bolting to the gate post or bracket. 3) Does the gate unlock or stay locked if the power goes out?
