1) How much load can the Securitron AQL102 power supply actually carry at 12 VDC?
The AQL102 puts out 10 amps at 12 VDC, which is what sizes the job. Budget your locks against that: a bank of maglocks or electric strikes each drawing a fraction of an amp adds up fast, and you want headroom left over rather than running the supply at its ceiling. Input is 120 or 230 VAC, and the unit runs up to 91 percent efficiency, so it does not dump much heat into the closet.
2) I need 24 volt locks on part of the system. Can the Securitron AQL102 run both 12 and 24 VDC?
Only with the B100 module added. On its own the AQL102 is a single voltage 12 VDC supply; order it with the Secondary Voltage Module option (Yes - B100) and it will give you 12 VDC or 24 VDC. That is an order-time choice, so decide before you buy if any of your hardware is 24 volt. The board also uses dual-color LED notification (green for 12 V, blue for 24 V) so an installer can see at a glance which voltage a circuit is set to before landing wires on a lock.
3) How many door outputs can I get out of a Securitron AQL102, and how do I order them?
Up to 16 outputs in the standard enclosure. You get there with R8 power relay modules, ordered on the unit: R8 for one module, 2R8 for two, or 3R8 for three. Each module adds a bank of outputs, so pick the count against how many openings that panel has to feed. If you buy the board with no relay module, you are running the main output only.
4) Does the Securitron AQL102 come with an enclosure or is it just the board?
Both ways. Order it as Board Only with no enclosure if you are mounting into a rack, an existing can, or a cabinet you already have on the wall, or order Board with E1 Enclosure for a complete wall-mount unit. Every relay module and B100 combination is offered either way, so the enclosure choice does not limit which options you can add.
5) Will the AQL102 drop my maglocks on a fire alarm signal?
Yes, it has an integrated Fire Alarm Interface. The FAI will shut down the main output, or, when R8 output modules are fitted, disconnect on a per output basis. That per-output behavior is the reason to spec R8 modules on a mixed building: you can release the doors on the alarmed circuit and leave the rest of the access control powered instead of killing the whole panel.
6) What happens to the doors if the building loses power, and does the AQL102 charge batteries?
On AC loss the unit auto-switches to battery instantly, so locks and readers stay up. Battery charging runs on its own dedicated fast charger circuit, which Securitron calls LockSafe, keeping the charging load off the lock output so the locks run cooler. A low battery cutoff disconnects before the batteries go into deep discharge, which is what usually kills a set of standby batteries early. Batteries themselves are a separate purchase.
7) What do I have to decide before ordering a Securitron AQL102?
Three things, and all three are set at order time. Enclosure: board only, or board with the E1 enclosure. Power relay modules: none, R8, 2R8, or 3R8, which sets how many outputs you end up with, up to 16. Secondary voltage: with or without the B100, which is the only way to get 24 VDC out of the unit. Adding an R8 module is also what unlocks per-output fire alarm disconnect, so if you need doors to release by zone, do not order the board bare.
8) What can I use instead of a Securitron AQL102 if I only need to power one or two electric strikes?
A small single-door supply covers that load.
