SECURITRON LM LATCH MONITORS

The LM Series is designed for reporting back to an alarm system to indicate that a door is latched, thereby reducing the possibility of false alarms. Can also be used to provide an initiate signal to model XDT delayed egress logic timers.

The LM Series interfaces with an access control or alarm system to indicate the state of the latchbolt. Used alone or in conjunction with a door position switch, the LM provides confirmation that the door is secure, preventing false alarms and unauthorized access while providing tamper detection. Can also be used to transmit an initiate signal to XDT delayed egress logic timers.

Securitron LML-1 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Securitron LM latch monitor do I need for a 2-3/4 inch ANSI strike prep versus a 4-7/8 inch?
The strike cutout already in the frame decides the model. LMS-1 fits any standard 2-3/4 inch ANSI cutout and carries a single SPDT switch. For the larger 4-7/8 inch ANSI cutout, LML-1 is the single-switch version and LML-2 is the two-switch version that reports a mortise latch and deadbolt separately. Measure the existing strike prep before ordering, because the three models are not interchangeable between the two cutout sizes.
2) Do I have to cut the frame or replace the strike plate to add latch monitoring to a door that is already hung?
No frame work. The LM Series latch monitor installs concealed behind the existing hardware and requires no jamb or strike plate modification, which is what makes it a retrofit rather than a frame job. Match the model to the ANSI strike prep that is already there: LMS-1 for a 2-3/4 inch cutout, LML-1 or LML-2 for a 4-7/8 inch cutout.
3) I need to know the deadbolt is thrown, not just that the latch caught. Can a latch monitor report both?
Use the LML-2. It monitors a mortise latch and a deadbolt separately through two independent SPDT switches, so the panel sees two distinct states instead of one combined signal, and you can send latch and deadbolt to different zones. It fits a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI cutout. LML-1 and LMS-1 each have a single SPDT switch and report one bolt position only.
4) I already have door position switches on these openings. Is a latch monitor worth adding on top of that?
A door position switch only tells you the door is closed. A Securitron LM latch monitor reports the state of the latchbolt itself, so a door that swings shut against a stiff seal or a bad closer and rebounds without the bolt engaging reads as unsecured rather than secure. The LM is meant to be used alone or in conjunction with a door position switch, and running both gives the alarm or access control system closed and latched as two separate confirmations. That is the combination that cuts false alarms and flags a door that has been taped or otherwise defeated.
5) What can I run through the contacts on a Securitron LM latch monitor, and will it drive a 24V alarm input?
Each switch is rated SPDT 2A at 24V. That is a signaling-level dry contact: alarm panel zone inputs, access control auxiliary inputs, and a delayed egress timer initiate input all sit well inside it. Anything drawing more than the contact rating should be switched through an interposing relay rather than wired directly to the monitor.
6) Does the LM latch monitor give a normally open or a normally closed output?
Both. The switch is SPDT, single pole double throw, so you get a common, a normally open and a normally closed contact and can wire the zone to change state either on latch or on unlatch, whichever your panel expects. Rating is 2A at 24V per switch. LML-2 carries two of these switches, so the latch and the deadbolt can each feed their own zone.
7) Can a latch monitor start a Securitron XDT delayed egress timer?
Yes. The LM Series can transmit the initiate signal to a Securitron XDT delayed egress logic timer, so the countdown starts from the latch actually being released at the door rather than from a separate pushbutton or sensor. It reports the same latchbolt state to an alarm or access control system at the same time.
8) Is the Securitron LM latch monitor UL listed for access control and burglar alarm work?
Listed to UL 634 and ANSI/UL 294, with ULC/ORD-C634 for Canadian jobs, and approved by the California State Fire Marshal. The Underwriters Laboratories file is SA6635 Vol. 2 and BP6799, covering UL 294, NFPA 101 and sUL634. Those are the numbers to put on a submittal when the latch monitor is part of a monitored egress or delayed egress arrangement.
9) Will a latch monitor survive on an exterior perimeter door or an unheated parking structure entrance?
Operating range is -40 to +160F (-40 to +71C), so exterior entrances, unheated stairwells, parking garages and cold storage doors are all inside the window. It is a commercial-duty device, and because it hides behind the existing hardware there is nothing exposed on the frame face to take abuse or weather directly.
